what OFFICIALLY happened to tidus?

ok so i know tidus was supposed to be a dream of the fayth and all and when sin died the fayth stopped dreaming so he disappeared. but i watched the ending to X-2 and he just comes back and everythings ok. does that mean the fayth randomly started dreaming again? its really frustrating how the X series isnt really answering that question. so the question is...what do you think happened? anyone know the real, final answer?

But that doesn't make sense, seeing as technically he was never alive, and how can a dream go to the Farplane?
