Ive beaten him on a previous game, but im just curious what level is the recommended to beat him without to much trouble? I get him down so that he starts going red a lot, but his spore attack thing always gets me, his fireball attack to.

My levels go like this:

Vaan: 25(Hes always out, so hes like 4-5 lvls higher than everyone else) Weapon: Flametounge
Baltheir:20 Weapon: Heavy Lance
Fran:20 Weapon: Loxely Bow
Basch:20 Weapon: War Hammer
Ashe: 20 Weapon: Flametounge
Penelo: 20 Weapon: Crossbow
Larsa: 18

So uh, suggestions? Should i train more, do more marks or something? Although if i kept trying i could beat him, but he put Vaan to sleep at the start of the battle so i couldnt use the quickening when i needed to to wipe out another 10000 hp so he'd only have a sliver of HP left...

Although i suppose if i bought some remedies... Anyone know where i can buy some of those? Or anything that wakes someone up

Oh and im still trying to get better weapons for them, whenever i get around 6k i go to jahara and see if theres any good ones there (They have the best weapons at this point in the game, if theres better elsewhere PLEASE TELL ME)

Ok, i beat him, i updated the list with the stats that i beat him with.

99 is ok, but you'll manage with 25-30. try to keep your characters spread out to avoid the spore thing, and get those treants first.
Use Alarm clocks to wake people up. Best make a gambit for everything he can do.
Oh by the way dont use hammers, they're too unreliable.

If you have two Flametongues, that'll be of great use. For a comfortable win, I'd recommend training until your average party level was 25 at the least. You're not much underlevelled, so you should find it easy to train up for a while. It's particularly easy to do in this area if you use the Gladius (or any Wind-based weapons), as the Malboros are weak to Wind.

The only way from here that you can get better items is through Bazaar. Though, your current weapon set looks fine. I wouldn't worry about hitting much harder than you can, seeing as they're pretty decent weapons anyway (Flametongue in particular).

Remedies are... hard to come by. You're better off just using other items in its stead when you can. Elder Wyrm doesn't inflict you with anything too serious, so you should be okay. At least your HP will be kept at a reasonable amount. ;p

Just train up, basically. This fight's quite easy once you've got the levels behind you.

I was around lv 22-24 (only 3 characters the other 3 were lv 9) and he was fairly hard.
I prefer using remedies over esuna cause once you get all three lores it's better than esuna.

Man, I remember when I fought Elder Wyrm, damn he was hard. He defeated me 10-15 times. I used all my remedies just for his Sporefall (damn that attack). This what I will write help defeated that damn wyrm: Drag Elder Wyrm into one corner, and when it says that he begins casting Sporefall, run across the whatever-you-fight-that-boss, that way Sporefall shall maybe leave one party member unaffected.

I beat him, and it was a massive pain. I would always have Vaan stay behind him when he used sporefall, and a lot of the time it wouldnt hit him, so he just used whatever he needed on them (Smelling salts for confuse ASAP so they didnt kill eachother, then eye drops, thats it really)

Lol, at the end i was in so much trouble, i was out of magic, larsa was dead, and EVERYONE was sapped. So my HP was dropping fast and i was just bashing him, and he died when Vaan had about 100 hp left, his max was about 1400 (Its 1600 now)

If you buy gladius for your characters then it would make it easier.
I started replaying the game again and he was pretty easy this time round (Even though i was lv 21 with only 3 characters)

lvl 25 + should be ok, I suggest equipping rose corsages and that way you should be fine with an esuna gambit. Be sure to have atleast 2 or 3 quickenings so that your MP bar can sustain the esunas you'll cast. Stock up on quite some handkerchiefs and make a gambit for oiled characters as sporefall followed by fireball would be nasty without that. A good idea is making a gambit : character: any ==> protect.Larsa should be a big help in this battle with his healing.

Did you know that you dont have to fight the elder wyrm? You can take a different route so you dont have to fight him, you'll have to go through the feywood tho :p.

This is a pretty damn hard boss i'll admit.
handkerchiefs are very handy if you're running low on mp so be sure to stock up on them!

The Elder Wyrm? God. My characters were easily at level 35-38 when I reached him and I still found it challenging. I'm just bad at strategy. =\

I remember facing him. He was quite diffulcult with that Spore attack. He also had his partners to help him out. Bleh. I am in the Jungle now and I am about level 20 for my main three characters. =). Larsa is 18 if I am not mistaken.

Having Larsa in my party always made things difficult. Normally it's great having an extra hand, but he was actually about 5 levels lower than the rest of my party every time that he accompanied me. That and you cant buy licenses for him so his HP was horrendously low. In the fight with the Elder Wyrm, my mage kept casting Raise on him because he died off so quickly. I found it was easier to keep him dead.

By the way...while you're in the golomore jungle...make a good Panter chain. By the time you reach a chain of around 70 Panters, you should have 99 courel pelts in your inventory. They sell for 40,000 gil alltogether and should buy you some decent armor and magic.

Hohoho, Good deal. Larsa had those unlimited Hi-Potions. Those came in handy at times.

I thought the other wyrm was harder then the Elder Wyrm. =/. I forgot it's name. The one in the Henne Mines.

I think it's just called Wyrm...I think...the one you fight while looking for Myrn....Myrn? Or is it Mjrn?

No I definitely found the Elder Wyrm harder. I hate status attacks. XD

I was glad that you could actually use status magic on bosses in this game. In the other FFs I virtually never used spells like slow or blind. XD

Well...actually, I never tried to use status spells on bosses. Throughout the FF history you've never been able to cast status spells on the Big Bosses.

I liked how you could Dispel any boss from it's protections and such.

Lol thats why you should keep someone away from eldar wyrm so they avoid sporefall
The wyrm in henne mines was called tiamat and he was easy since all he did was normal attacks

I always have my mage equipped with a bow so she won't get too close to enemies. =]

The hardest enemies are the ones who hit you with confuse, sap, or sleep all at once. One of the hardest bosses I found was the Mandragoras in the Sochen Cave Palace. The first time I played the game...god...they slaughtered me nearly 5 times.

hmm they are annoying because if you don't kill them fast enough they become almost impossible to hit due to one of their abilities that increases their evasion

Now if you add etem to the list of annoying ones then he'll come near the top.
His stupid mp 0 ability

I was lucky enough to get a good 11 hit mist chain on them and took out a good bit of their HP. But I hate using mists because it drains all of your MP. And I'm not fond of using techniques to restore HP and MP.
