I know by reading the title, you are thinking.. do you mean vacation? Do you mean escape? Do you mean a spot in my house? Shu stop being so vague. Actually I'm more or less thinking, what is your favorite place around you in which you might travel to in proximity that gives a piece of mind and/or is your sanctuary rather?

I am fascinated due to my friends around me have their own distinct place they go to in order to kind of be in their own moment per say. I'll start off with mine.

I have two places that are relatively close to me that give me a piece of mind.

1) There is a park called Two Rivers that has a green way. The green way wraps around the river and has a long trail where I can run/bike/and walk on with very little people on it. It literally is a 1/2 mile from my house. 90% of the time you will see deer crossing and it has over three cross over bridges via a river that runs through.

2) There is an open farm to the public that actually my cousin's folks sold to the city of Franklin called Harlinsdale. There is a place to kayak on it, a long walking path in the fields, and old historic farm buildings. It's literally a 1/4th mile walk from my girl friend's. It gives me a good de-stresser.

Another examples is my city friends, who prefer to walk in the smack dab downtown city of Chicago with people to the right and left of them and disappear into the white noise.

What about yours?

Window shopping at the local strip mall is my get away spot/activity. There's something really freeing about just walking around in different stores, particularly stores related to games, books, or general electronics.

Hmmmm this is a hard one. I'm not sure I really have a single favourite spot. Anywhere that is peaceful and has trees and grass and plants and flowers, is good enough for me. Bonus points if there's a lake or ocean nearby.

A get away spot? Well, I really like to go outside when I am feeling depressed or sad. Usually a run of 30 min- an hour will really get me back in place. In the summer I love to swim and calm my mind which actually really helps me concentrate for the rest of the day afterwards. Sometimes my room can be a getaway spot if I'm feeling down and just want to play a game to forget about everything. Either that or rest.

My favourite get away spot has to be the Beacon Hotel in Sandyford, Dublin. Unfortunately it does cost half a kidney to enjoy a decent break there but it's one of the most relaxing and easy going places to get some down time. It's conveniently located close by to one of the city's largest shopping centres and because it's right by all public transport routes, there's no need to fret about parking or navigating city traffic. It also has the wackiest lobby, took a snap of it last year when we stayed during the Longitude music festival:

It's easily the Lake District.

It's relatively near where I live, is very easily reachable by car and is the perfect place to kick back, ruminate and let my troubles wither away even if it's for a short, fleeting few hours. I make an effort to visit the Lake District when I just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of other people and everyday urban life. I would typically bring along one or two friends so it's a compact little group, which is perfect for day trip activities like casual biking around and lounging about on the seats outside a quaint stone pub on a hill overlooking the sunset. The nearest Go Ape! site is aptly located in the neighbourhood, so naturally I make the annual excursions to Grizedale and faff around on the outdoor obstacles, assault courses, Segways and zip-lines.

Back when we were moving, almost 2 years ago, everything associated with the move were just a nightmare. Needless to say, being home and dealing with that mess was really frustrating and in some ways a little depressing. So as odd as it sounds, going to work was my time to get away. I did enjoy being at work at the time, so it was actually my getaway. Mainly because it was the only thing going on that was stable in life at the time.

These days, it's the opposite. Work has been annoying me a bit lately and being home is what I enjoy most. I was working 60 hours a week for over a year and it was a killer. It wasn't that I hated being at work for that many hours, but not spending time with my wife and kids was a sucky experience. So once the need to work extra hours was over, it was awesome to get to be home with my wife and kids again. Yeah, I don't have much of a life. My days are spent mostly working at the job and working at home (the joys of being a home owner). So if there is time to relax and hang out with the family, that's what I enjoy most. It might sound dull to most, but it really is special.

As far as vacation spots goes, our favorite vacation spot was Newport back when we were first dating. And some of the hotels we stayed at off-season were phenomenal for the price we got them for. These days though, the White Mountains in New Hampshire is where we tend to go most. It's a great place and there is plenty for the kids to do too.

I also don't have a specific favourite spot to get away from it all, but I do enjoy just being able to go outside and get a breath of fresh air. If I do get the opportunity, I enjoy being near the water, whether it's a by a lake or at the beach (the latter preferably in the evening when it is not too crowded). Just to be able to listen to the waves or see how tranquil the water can be helps to ease my mind - I find it soothing.

I also really enjoy the sound of rain - I like to sit outside on the doorstep and listen to it (when it's not too cold). Helps me relax ^_^

I don't really have a favourite spot I don't think.

I quite like the sound of rain, so I have a decent playlist with rain sounds if it's not raining outside. It's not necessarily a "get-away" though, I've yet to find something that works for me and helps me de-stress. Maybe someday.

Mine has to be the local lake. It's always been where me and the school mates would go growing up and it was always so much fun. Now that the school mates have all gone, it's a nice place to just sit about and read.

Kind of a lame response:

The bedroom. No, get your mind out of the gutter, I said this was a lame response.

I don't know what it is exactly, but it's just a 'safe' place. If I had to guess I'd say it was because that's where we would gather as kids when we would all talk as a family. My childhood wasn't terrible but it had it's major downsides for a good few years during our parent's divorce. I can just remember piling up on my mom's bed and just chatting for an hour or two. Or when we would all gather and watch a new episode of something-or-other. It was just a safe place, and I've found myself several times just retreating to my own bedroom to hide from responsibilities, depression and/or stress. I know it kinda sounds unhealthy but I have to say it really helped just taking an hour or so just to rest, take a nap, do whatever, and get up and face the world again. It's also one of the places where me & my husband do some of our long talks - it's just nice.

Ehhh, more outdoorsy places I'd have to say that a town called Galena is pretty nice during the autumn months. Any time is fine, really, but the drive is beautiful in the fall. Driving there is interesting because it leaves the flatland I'm used to - It's about a 2 hour drive but the scenery is significantly more interesting! The town itself is known for it's preserved 19th century architecture and unusual shops. We go there occasionally to get away, it's so beautiful to just walk along the streets. Even driving through it really nice on it's own - the houses are just so much more interesting than what I'm used to. It's only downside is that it isn't very large.

Also, apparently I was a collie in my past life because I love car rides. Nothing too long, of course, but I just enjoy chatting and watching the scenery. I know it's not a place but it kind of is if you just consider it a moving place. :P
