What if Zidane had been petrified instead of Blank?

It could've easily been Zidane that had been petrified in the forest, but Blank shoved him aside to be that person instead.

Now I've just started a new playthrough of the game and can't help, but wonder. What would the game be like if Zidane had been petrified and Blank possibly became the protagonist? Discuss.

I don't think the game would function as well without Zidane, tbh.
He has some key roles in character development with a few characters, but mostly Garnet.
If he was petrified, I don't think Garnet would've turned into the character she does by disc 3, if anything, she would've retreated into her shell as opposed to becoming the more outgoing person she becomes.
Blank as a protagnist is... interesting but I don't think he shared that same charisma that Zidane has throughout the game, love him or hate him, I don't think it would've been the same without Zidane.

Freya, Eiko, Amarant wouldn't have joined the party if Zidane wasn't there, Garnet will not have been able to come back from her mother's death (Zidane's dagger she used to cut her hair was a symbol of a new beginning for her), things wouldn't have been as personal against Kuja...

But I would imagine that Blank and the others would just rescue Zidane so everything will be back to normal. If he didn't get rescued, then yeah things will be screwed.

I agree with Andry there. I would have liked to see Blank as a main character but certainly not as a Zidane replacement. Obviously he was instrumental in character development and I don't think Blank's personality would have done what Zidane's did. He was a more laid-back kind of guy.
Would have liked him in the party permanently though. Perhaps instead of Amarant. (I liked Amarant as a fighter but he didn't really add anything to the storyline).

The wold have neded very abruptly. Zidane, being a key role in the game, possibly having been pretrified, would've A een devistating to the group and B Nothing would have pregressed as far as it did.

Random thought ijust had. You have another FF game very similair to IX but you have 2 key members, best buds or something aong those lines. But anyways at some point in the game you choose which die and the other continues on with the story. This of course has a 2 very different story arches in he game after said death.
