Well, here I am playing FFVII, first time in a good while even though I've "never" beat it and I've passed the part where you save Aerith and after you take her home. They welcome Cloud to stay at her house for the night, after he drifts off into sleep then wakes up, we see Aerith in the other room still awake, sitting down on the bed, kicking her feet. When I seen her do this, I had an interesting thought cross my mind. "What could she be thinking?" Could she be thinking about Cloud? Or something else? Share your thoughts.

I THINK she already know what will happened in the future that involves herself on a major part.

I do not believe that Aeris is a seer. Ancient maybe, but not a seer.
But you bring up a good question. Right off the top of my head, I believe that she's thinking about the similarities between this 'new' person she met and her dear old boyfriend, which is sure to stir up a few odd questions. Something's not right with this wierdo and she knows it. (High wisdom will do that)

or she could very well be thinking about what tricksy thing this new guy is gonna pull. Which would explain why she was waiting for him later on.

or......she could be thinking just why the hell he thought she was the slum drunk. :D
 
My vote goes to support the idea that Aerith did know she was on the verge of death.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the group does NOT realize until after her death in disc one that the Sephiroth who they were chasing was really a manifestation of Jenova's being.

Jenova fought the Cetra many years ago, and killed off many of their kind.
Aerith knew that Sephiroth was infused with Jenova's cells. She knew that his body was thrown into the mako reactor, and she knew that he, as well as Jenova's head were sucked into the lifestream. She did obtain all of this information mearly by being in Cloud's company, there's no doubt about it.

Being a Cetra; being able to comunicate with the planet, she knew very well what Jenova's capabilities were; including mimicing memories, and taking the form of man.
Aerith was probably the first person to realize that Sephiroth wasn't really Sephiroth in the flesh. Which is why she went after Sephiroth/Jenova alone: because it was her duty as a Cetra.



Of course...Aerith might not have known all of this information prior to being a member of Cloud's party. I highly doubt that she had feelings for him so early in the game based on the fact that they met just one day prior to him waking up with her on his bed.
I support the idea however, that she was in all probability, highly attracted to Cloud because of his resemblence to Zack.
 
I agree completely on your post, Rhea. I really do feel that Aerith did know what she was heading into. I feel that Aerith somehow knew in a way that she could possibly die or that her life would be in even more danger, but she had no choice. It was her destiny and her rightful duty as the last remaining Cetra. Nobody else could have done what Aerith did.

As for Cloud, no I don't think Aerith had feelings for him that early in the game, but I do know that she was attracted to him at first because of the Zack in him. However, later on in the game she grew to see the Cloud in him and not the Zack and she fell even more in love with Cloud. She loved Cloud more than she ever loved Zack which was confirmed in Maiden Who Travels the Planet~ Aerith's official novel.
 
Think about it this way.
Aerith is only 22 years old.
If Zack dissapeared with Cloud over 5 years ago, then that would mean that she was...only 16 or 17 when they were together. Her first love has been gone for over five years.

Someone refresh my memory...when Cloud and Aerith are at the playground in the slums, what does she say to him about Zack?

"...Rank?"

"In SOLDIER."

*white flash*

"First class."

"You're just like him."

"Who? Maybe I knew him."

*shakes her head* "It's not important."
 
Does she ever say anything else in the game about Zack?
I might have to google it, but I dont want to rely solely on google. =x

I'm not for sure, I'm still quite early in the game (train graveyard). I'll post quotes if I come across a Zack related part.
 
This is the actual script of what was said:
(Aerith puts her hands behind her back and looks up at Cloud.)

Aerith: "Can we take a break?"

(She walks to a large, moogle-shaped children's slide.)
Aerith: "I can't believe it's still here."

(She climbs to the top)

Aerith: "Cloud, get over here!"

(He climbs up and sits beside her.)

Aerith: "What rank were you?"

Cloud: "Rank?"

Aerith: "You know, in SOLDIER."

Cloud: "Oh, I was..."

(The screen goes solid white, briefly.)

Cloud: "First Class."

Aerith: "Just the same as him."

Cloud: "The same as who?"

Aerith: "My first boyfriend."

Cloud: "You were... serious?"

Aerith: "No. But I liked him for a while."

Cloud: "I probably knew him. What was his name?"

(Aerith shakes her head.)

Aerith: "It doesn't really matter."

*giggles* Cloud wondered if they were serious and Aerith states that they weren't :P

As for saying anything else, she does during the date scene when she's struggling to make Cloud understand that she sees the Cloud in him and loves him not because of Zack but because he's Cloud. She says this:

(FMV sequence. The gondola rumbles along its track, through dazzling
fireworks, lighting up the entire Saucer.)

Aerith: "It's beautiful, isn't it?"

(She looks down)

Aerith: ".........first off, it bothered me how you looked exactly
alike." "Two completely different people, but look exactly the same."
"The way you walk, gesture..."
"I think I must have seen him again, in you..."

(She shakes her head)

Aerith: "But you're different."

(She looks down again)

Aerith: "Things are different..."

(FMV sequence. The entire exterior of the Gold Saucer is lit up with
fabulous, starry fireworks displays. Aerith continues to speak.)

Aerith: "Cloud..."
"I'm searching for you..."

Cloud: "............?"

Aerith: "I want to meet you."

Cloud: "But I'm right here."

Aerith: (I know, I know... what I mean
is...) "I want to meet..... you."

In the Japanese translation, Aerith is basically trying to tell Cloud she wants to be his girlfriend, his sweetheart.

Aerith indicated right then and there that it was nothing serious. She liked him, but guess what happened? He went on a mission to Nibelhiem 5 years ago and dissapeared.
That's why nothing ever happened between them. So you can't really say that Aerith was in love with Zack. Which gives meaning to wonder why she would have feelings for cloud when they first met...She wouldn't.
 
You are totally right on this Rhea. I feel the exact same way. Aerith didn't have feelings for Cloud when they first met, but she was attracted to him. As they traveled together she grew feelings for him and grew to truly love him. It even states in her official novel Maiden Who Travels the Planet that she loved Cloud more than she ever loved Zack. I do believe Aerith was growing feelings for Zack, but he disappeared before either of them could really have something special together. I also edited my post above too if you want to see where else she mentions Zack.
 
That's one of the best scenes in the game...the one at the gold saucer. :)

So what is this..."Maiden Who Travels the Planet" that I keep hearing about? Where can I read it?? ^_^

Interesting, and you've got a few good points, but remember 2 things. 1) She could not hear the planet all that well or make out what it was trying to tell her. and 2) She didn't know anything about the whole story Cloud told them in Kalm. Tifa knew more than she did, and it would be virtually impossible for Aeris to know Sephiroth was in the lifestream. So her knowledge of Jenova and Sephiroth would be very limited, even with communicating with the planet.

Anyways, I do not beleive that she knew she would die at THAT point in the game. Later on, yes, she knew very well what would happen. But when she's in her house.....no.

Since I have to throw in my own 2 cents, I don't think she really had that much in the way of feelings for Cloud. I mean, she just met him, and that was when he fell through her roof!! (kinda awkward...) She may have liked him, but that may be due to his resemblence to Zack. Later on....she began to like HIM with no connections to Zack. That's what I think...

It IS one of the best scenes. Especially the play and when he kisses her hand!!! <3 *squees* I just adore them to bits and pieces!
