I read a newspaper a few days ago and it said that the scientists have found a planet that looks just like ours! And it's in our galaxy too. However we only have the pics of that strange planet, to get more data we will have to land. So we will be aliens to someone! It's a high risk but there are ppl that are willing to take that risk, for the ppl that live there might want to be friends with us, but they can be evil too... Who knows. Anyway that planet has water, air, the atmosphere, clouds and ofcourse the sun! All we need to do is to find out who lives there.

You know how Final Fantasy is about different storys? Each story takes place in a different planet, that is not our Earth. Those different characters look like us! There's a hope that people in that planet looks like the humans....

Meh...honestly, I don't really approve of any sort of landing that we'd be doing, if we're going to do it.

Reason?

As Matrix-ish as it sounds, humans are a plague. Once we land and we find that the environment is indeed similar to our own, we're going to want to settle there. Once we make successful settlements, we'll multiply and consume the resources of that planet. By the time Earth is out of resources, there will be even more who will want to go to this new planet and live there. Like the Earth is now, that planet will be overpopulated by humans. What will become of this new planet given a few dozen generations? It will bear the same problems that we have here on Earth.

So until we are accustomed to living without using large amounts of nonrenewable resources (ie oil), we should stay off of that planet for now. Or any other planets, for that matter.

I agree with the poster above me, mostly because humans don't know how to evualate and use things probably without using too much of it. Most people don't care because by the time the world ends, they are gonna be dead, well that is my opinion. Though, as much as I hate to say it rich people, probably know how not to over use things that are not their maids or butler. We would over populate that planet like this, it took thousands of years reach 2 billion and in 50 yeasr we went from 2 to around 8.

I also agree with the posters above, but I would be lieing if I weren't excited about such this. Other than that, it would take a really really long time to reach such a planet with our current technology. I mean, NASA's having trouble getting to Mars because they have to carry too much feul aboard the ship to get there.

Also,

The aliens on that planet probably are more advanced than us. All these Ufo sightings are probably from that planet. They havent made contact with us to leave us to do our own thing. When we go to their planet I'm betting within a year we will be at war with them.

Absolutely. I agree and until we learn how to stop draining OUR planet, we morally dont have the right to take resources from other planets that belong to other lifeforms.

Do you have any Images of this "planet" because I dont believe you one bit sorry =P

You know, there isn't actually any proof that there's sentient life on that other planet. Just because it has an environment similar to that of Earth, doesn't mean it is populated. And it will take close to a century for us to get there with the current methods we have. By the time humans do get there, we'll all be long dead and forgotten about.

This is the best post on this thread. As I was reading everyone's posts I was thinking the exact same things as Pooley mentioned. We have people comparing this planet to FF games, and others making assumptions that there is already life there. I mean it is great an all that there is a planet similar to ours outside of this solar system, but we gotta get logical about it.

I think it'd take us way over a century to be able to do that. We can't even get a bloody space shuttle into space before something goes wrong with it. I really wish we'd start funding the space program again, after the Cold War ended it seemed that everyone just forgot about it.

And let's just assume there is life out there (because it's more exciting that way), i'd have to agree with Shenny. We'd probably just use it as a planet to move to once we'd killed off our own, cuz let's face it, we're killing this planet. You have global warming (yeah yeah, i know some of you may not believe in it), we've got plenty of pollution that's killing the ozone and the oceans (look at China, they don't even have any environmental laws), we're depleting our natural resources...

So frankly, if we ever do make contact with the other planet, i hope for their sake we never settle there.

There's no fun in being logical. As Pooley stated earlier, we'll all be dead by the time humanity will have such technology. So isn't it fun to just fantasize(wrong spelling?) and dream about it?

well i sure hope we find some friendly aliens, not the kind that are going to try to harvest us like the ones from signs. too bad we won't be able to communicate with them, i mean they won't be speaking any earth languages right?

Sure they will! It's gonna be like Star Wars, where English is Basic, the language of the galaxy that everyone learns. And we're gonna learn from these aliens how to make blasters and lightsabers and use the force and we can join a rebellion and ZOMG I'M GONNA B A JEDI!!!1!!!

OMGZ I WUNA B A JEDI SOO BAD LOLZ!

but in all seriousness, how cool would that be if it was really like that? i'd totally live on that planet and use the force to get what i wanted.

That would be awesome ^_^

Assuming there IS intelligent life there, i wonder what they would be? Humanoid or something totally different? Like, imagine if it was a direct parallel of earth, only a different species had taken dominance, like wolves. I guess if that was the case we'd have some place to ship all the furfags <.<

I suppose you have point.

I was watching ze science channel yesterday and on it was a program about the probability of finding life on another planet. There was a scientist examining the Earth for the earliest known lifeform. He found fossilized bacteria that dates back to around 650,000 years after the Earth was formed. So maybe it's not so far-fetched that this Earthlike planet could harbor some form of life.

Well, I suppose there is one language that we can assume is universal to some point.

Have you ever seen Contact? Lifeforms from Vega made contact with Earth by using numbers (prime ones, to be specific). Although even our own nations have different names for our numbers, they are still the same amount.

Those people that live in that planet may have a natural lenguage given by God (like dog's barking, cat's meowing) they wouldn't need more. But who knows, they might be evil, I mean if we do land on that planet they would just kill us off... It could be a different story if they look like us though.

There are a lot of questions in my mind now:

How would we communicate?
What is they're in the same trouble as we are by polluting their planet?
Are they good or bad?
Do they look like us?
Do they have an advanced technology or do they live by nature?

man...
