So I was talking to cooky on MSN and we're TRYING to figure this WHOLE thing out. We got everything laid out up until the point where you reach Nibelhiem on disc 1.

According to the facts, Zanghan rescued Tifa from the reactor while Nibelhiem was being burned down...however...
In the present...when you reach Nibelhiem, everyone denies the town being burned...even Zanghan...

EXPLAIN!!!

ok. After Sephiroth went mad he burned down the town. Now hold on. Shinra came afterwards and cleaned everything up. There was to be no witness. Survivors were used for the expeirement. To cover up what they had created and the secret of Jenova, Shinra rebuilt Nibelheim and put a research team in there to pose as the real towns people.

So, yes, Nibelhiem did burn down. But Shinra rebuilt it to cover up the whole thing and to prevent the secret of Jenova from getting out.

Tifa's instructor doesn't deny that the town was burned he justs says that somehow it was back and that there were strange people in it. This would be the 'new' town that the Shinra built and the people would be the employees of Shinra.

That about covers it.

If you read a letter on Tifa's desk when Cloud flashes back & is telling the story of Sephiroth & Nibelheim, when you arrive to Nibelheim in the story you can read another letter on Tifa's desk explaining what happened to the town 5 years ago.

And Zangan wasn't in Nibelheim when you visit it with your party.

Yes i just looked up the script and saw that letter. ^_^
But there were other people in Nibelhiem who denied the town ever being burnt.

I've tried to read the letter on Tifa's desk in the flashback but you can't read anything. The game won't allow. However in the real world when you go to the rebuilt Nibelhiem, only on disk 3, there is a letter on Tifa's desk which is from Zangan describing how he saved her and that the town is somehow restored with strangers in it. Therefore, I can only conclude that Zangan passed through the town recently and left the letter and the limit break for Tifa.

The other people in the town are, as I have said, posers, employees of Shinra. After Shinra rebuilt the town, they put a research team in there to pose as the real townspeople. It's a small town rarely visited by outsiders and so the fact that the town was destroyed would have been virtually impossible to know unless you survived it's destruction. Shinra saw to it that no one survived. However Cloud and Zack escaped and Cloud survived. Tifa was unconscience when she was rescued by Zangan but she did know that the town was destroyed.

I think everyone in Nibelheim (except for Zangan, Tifa, Cloud, & Zack) died in the fire. That's when the Shinra swept in to cover it up. At that point, Zangan had already taken Tifa & escaped with her. Hojo then experimented on Cloud & Zack for the next few years, and when they escaped a manhunt was ordered for them due to the fact that Shinra didn't wan't any witnesses to what happened in Nibelheim.

To cover it up alot more effectively, Shinra hired actors (Shinra employees) to play it out as if nothing had ever happened to the town.
But yes, EVERYONE in Nibelheim is an actor when you visit it with your party.

That letter from Zangan isn't on the desk, it's in the piano. You receive it if you play the right tune on it, along with Tifa's 'Final Heaven" Lvl 4 limit break.

Forgive me, your correct. The letter on the desk is the Shinra letter detailing what the Shinra did after the destruction of the town. Sorry. My bad.
