Axel was a Nobody. He is the Nobody of a guy named Lea, who is mentioned in BBS (Birth By Sleep). As as for the question or if he could love, it is very confusing. Nobodies should not be able to actually love, as they have no hearts and can only fabricate feelings based on emotion. But since Roxas was a special Nobody, as was Xion, they could actually love and then Roxas's influence on Axel changed him into a person who could actually have feelings. That question can only be properly answered in a future installment, but I believe that Roxas may have given Axel feeling again, or at the very least, Nobodies may have that inherent feeling and Roxas just awoke it in Axel :hmmm:

U see why i like him now dont u? red hair green eyes and shows some form of emotion during the whole "axel and roxas" relastionship. I swear thye are seeing each other :seymour:
