Was Anyone Else Left Disappointed by the Battle System In Final Fantasy XII

I had a high level of anticipation for the release of Final Fantasy XII but found myself severely disappointed by the battle system and leveling up process and found the idea of less experience for the maximum amount of characters available in the party a complete rip-off. Did anyone else get the same impression as me?
