| Final Fantasy XII Presumably the last "main" game to be released on the PS2, FF12 broke the tradition of Battle Screens. It was also the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40 score from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. |

I absolutly HATE the battle system in this game
i just sarted ffXII and i am very annoyed with the way battles work. i dont see why they couldnt stick with the same style of game play, that is one of the things i loved most about ff games. not pleased at all. anyone else feel the same?

I don't hate it. It's a different game and I don't take it as a Final Fantasy anymore apart from its title. In fact, I loved the battle system even though you technically couldn't even avoid hits by monsters by running around them. It just added to the dynamic and motion of the game.
And...if you think about it, it's almost like the ATB system, but just with the real world going on around you.

Le sigh. There is already a thread for discussing things that annoy you within the game.
On-topic, I actually liked the battle system a lot. It was one of my favorite things about the game. The gambits did glitch sometimes but overall I quite enjoyed it. Random battles were fine but sometimes you just don't feel like fighting. I liked being able to avoid monsters easily if I wanted to.

I hated it. By the time I FINALLY got used to it, it was nearing the end of the game. I'ts certainly convienient (& addmitedly it's not TOO bad once you geyt used too it) but I found that the battles where too fast paced & I spent most of my time just watching the battles. Which was like watching the dullest film ever

I think the battle system is actually a step forward. To be honest I was getting annoyied of random battles, and having to endlessly wander around to find certain enemies, now its much easier. It's not entirly diffrent either. It's still the traditional ATB system but with the added feature of being able to designate automatic commands to characters and, like Jeremiah said, the world is still going on around you. Sure sometimes it does get boring, but didn't the old way? at least with this you can sit back, make a cup of Coffee, and relax whilst your characters kick butt. If you don't want to, just turn Gambits off

Yeah, I liked the battle system to this one. As a matter of fact I think it's one of the best things about this game.

No, but you could avoid being hit just enough to get your own gouge full an strike back right away, which means that if you are faster then that opponent you have a another turn coming.
Also the fact that the summons moved around too is pretty cool too.

At first I was a little disapointed in it. But after playing 80+ hours I now love it and dont think the normal type battle system would be the same with XII.

Just give it a chance. I thought I was going to hate it, but I like it. Its different to the turn based and you do get time to make decisions when you pull up your character menu.

To some people it's slow to pick up, but I never really minded. You have to think deep down - are random battles still going to look impressive in future titles, or should the battle system change for the better good?
Random battles were never a FF thing either, many other games have adopted that system of levelling up.
Now you get to travel across a vast world like you should do, it makes more sense to realistically encounter your monsters - Magna Carta had this system, in a way (you could see monsters and attack them, but it was poorly done. Awful battle system.
I know some people don't like change, but how is battling going to get any better for the series?
Moving onto stuff like Gambits, theyre good for presetting moves you hate to do manually, and though you get some useless ones, you get your good ones.
Quickenings are damaging when chained together, so when you unlock them, and use them efficiently, it'll help you get past some nasty bosses.
Ever remember casting a move in previous games but realised it was the wrong one? You can change that by simply selecting the preferred | | | |
