The Warhammer has done done it 'gin. Rolling out yet another shooter, THQ takes a different approach than some of it's most recent titles. Tackling the full Warhammer 40k universe in a third person perspective, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine puts you in the shoes of the Space Marines stomping across the universe and tearing apart Orks with your bare hands and chainsaw blade. A demo has already been released and the game will hit store shelves in the US on September 6th.

Warhammer 40k: Fire Warrior was not only my very first shooter (aside from side scrollers, of course) it was also my first first person game that I not only beat, but enjoyed. After that title, I was hooked and would begin to love FPS titles (almost) as much as their third person brethren.

Woahwoahwoah! Warhammer is a video game? I thought it was only that weird board game with creatures.

Well I shall check it out

Yeah I have been sort of interested in this. I know for sure that someone will end up getting it, and Ill play it somehow. It looks good though with all the different classes. I like 3rd person shooters too so I am sure Ill buy this or like I said someone in the family might get it. The multiplayer looks pretty fun. Defo rack up some achievements from it as well.

I liked the Demo (played it myself), but I don't like it enough to buy it so expensive.

Shall look at this again in like 3 months lol.

For those of us who enjoy a good co-op game as well:

Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marine: Co-op mode feature confirmed

Coop mode. For a video game. Really? Yeah, really. Okay, okay, sure, confirming co-op mode for a videogame in this day and age is like confirming that there will be ammo replenishment for first person shooter games or that you can swap cars in a driving game. It’s a feature fans have come to expect as a matter of course.
Still, THQ, the developer of Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marine have found it necessary to announce this new feature. However, the co-operative gameplay mode feature won’t be available in the game when it launches. A community manager for THQ originally mentioned the co-operative mode in forum post. Although THQ has confirmed the move to co-op, further details are pending. Initial indicators, mentioned in some blogs, speculate that the co-op mode will be freely available to those who buy a new copy of Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marine. Second hand buyers would have to pay extra for the feature. That’s the initial understanding of this feature. THQ has yet to confirm this.

While many game fans would consider this a bum move (assuming THQ goes with the dual payment system described above), I would beg to differ. Co-op mode would qualify as new content. Just like with any new DLC, you would have to pay for it. Now, if THQ decides to package it for free with new purchases of Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marine, it’s entirely their prerogative. Still, development costs have to be recouped.

I like the look of this. One-off shooters like this are always better than the mainstream ones like CoD and Halo, so it might be worth a look-in. I'll download the demo and give it a shot, at least...it has been a while since I played a decent FPS, and one that doesn't encourage you to take cover every five seconds should provide a different experience.

...but...no Tyranids? No Necrons? Couldn't they have used a decent force for the antagonists? It's always bloody orks :hmph:

Co-Op Comes Very, Very Late to the 40K: Space Marine Party

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is out next week. And developers Relic have only today revealed the fact the game will have a co-op mode. It's a late addition to the game; so late, in fact, it won't be available until next month.
The co-op mode, called Exterminatus, has two maps, and lets up to four players take control of a Space Marine in what's essentially a Horde match, fighting wave after wave of increasingly difficult alien enemies.
It'll be free, and will be released in "early October".
