Do you think that Square had the ideas for Revenant Wings when XII was released? Or during the production? It could... well... kind of (LOOSELY kind of...) make up for the fact that Vaan was such a poor excuse for a lead charecter in XII.

He DID seem to be a rather large part of the story.

Then again, I sense some XII-esque behaviors from Vaan... as in, letting Balthier and even Llyud taking charge of the lead... but still...

Opinions?

I'm not sure. I think they might have had both games in mind before actually creating them which, as you say, would make up for Vaan's crappy supposed leadership in XII. however, he does still give way a lot in RW, doesn't he, so maybe it's just a rather large character flaw that he has.

He's not good leadership material, so he let's others do it for him? That's my view, at least

It depends....Basch was suppose to be the lead character and is the main male character moving the story....the story is just told through Vaan eyes, but Vaan was seen as more marketable...so perhaps once changing to Vaan they saw potential of expanding on his story.

This game was definately in production when Final Fantasy XII came out. I think revenant wings was just to know more about the characters and there back storys. But Xii was very popular so they made a sequel.

Shouldn't Ashe have been the main character, in that scenario?

In FFXII it is hard to say who was the lead character. I don't think there actually was someone who can be called "lead character". Though Vaan , for some reason, was the character you control in towns in such.

Don't know if SE had the idea of RW during making FFXII, but I think they decided to change Vaan a bit and make him more "lead character" type.
I think they wanted Vaan to feel like the lead character in FFXII too, but somehow it didn't work well (though I personally have nothing against him in FFXII).
So maybe they tried to fix it up in RW.
