So, i have the FFVIII Ultimania after a long wait. Now the problem of translating it...does anyone here read Japanese? I've seen snippets of the Ultimania translated in FAQs but never the full thing so I was wondering if anyone could help translate the parts I want?
 
I'm pretty sure most FFs have an Ultimania or something like it...

Here's one page from the Character section in the Ultimania that I'd like translated as an example:

Anyway, I've searched around the net for translated versions of the Ultimania's before but only found bits and pieces of the FFX one.

Holic/Melancholy Rockit who is a buddy of mine and a member of this site knows some Japanese, but I'm not sure how much of it he could do. He's only studied parts of it in college I believe. You might be able to hit him up with a PM or email, but he hasn't been by the site in a while.
 
What's this Ultimania anyway? This is the first time I've heard of it.
 
It's a guide put out by Square-Enix that goes deeper into the stories, backgrounds, characters, plots, etc of the Final Fantasy games. It was made by the makers of the game to go beyond what you pick up superficially in the game and to describe what is easily missed or more in-depth.

These come in the form of Strategy guides I hear, but all of them in text are in the Japanese language and have yet to be published in English. You can find bits and pieces of translations around the net though.

I'm currently studying Japanese on College level in my country. And I've been wanting to get my hands on the Ultimania books.
Maybe even translating them. So far I've figured I'd wait until my Japanese had improved more. But curiosity gets the best of me and I'm seriously thinking about importing it now.
Unfortunatly I can't see the picture you posted up there Nikkolas, so I can't say whether I'm up for the job. Can you maybe send me a link to the picture?
Also you might've notice, English is not my first language, so bear with me if I ever do get around to translating (parts of) it.
 
Holy crap, first time I've heard of this Ultimania. Sounds interesting I'd like to hear some of it for FF8. More in depth plot or story explanations.
 
I know right.
I've always played this game over and over, trying to find out more secrets and such. And then it turns out theres a whole book on that. Love to read it someday.
I think I'm gonna go order it now.
 
Yeah I can't read Japanese and I've had the FFVIII Ultimania for literally YEARS.
I just bought it under the guise of an Art Book on eBay and it is very heavy on the pictures.
I do wish I could read it as there are a lot of plot holes I am very curious to see explained...
 
My copy should come any day now. Maybe its already there and I just don't know it.
I sent it to my parents place. So don't know. Gotta be more patient.
