so i just went against ultima weapon on my first try. i got pawned:gasp:. my current team is, quistis 95, squall and zell 100. i need help on preparation like what should my stat looks like and any abilities. also pls pls tell me a battle strategy.

I think your high levels are working against you. You may not know, but in FFVIII your enemies will always be the same level as your party, so levelling up in that game is almost completely counter-productive aside from gaining AP.

Because Ultima Weapon is going to be around level 100 for you, his attacks are going to be severely damaging, so if you don't have the Revive and Recover commands equipped make sure you at least have some Full-Life spells handy. His Light Pillar attack will take out a single character in one hit.

If you have the commands Revive and Recover, equip each to a separate character.
Make sure at least one character has Draw equipped, and also make sure you have someone (all 3 party members if you can) with the Magic command available.

Based on what spells you're going to be utilizing, your Junctioning can be very fluid, so I'll only mention that you'll want Squall to have something powerful junctioned to his strength (such as meteor or ultima) and all your characters with haste junctioned to their speed.

During the weapon fights in this game it's always a good strategy to have access to invincibility. You can use the item "holy war" to make your party invincible for several turns or depend on Rinoa's limit break "Invincible Moon".

If you are going to use Holy War: Keep your characters' HP up until Ultima Weapon casts Gravija on your party, which will bring your characters down into the limit-break zone, immediately use the Holy War afterwards.

If you are going to use Invincible Moon: Either use the same method as above or cast the spell Aura on Rinoa to allow her to gain access to her limit breaks even with full health.

If you aren't going to depend on Invincibility: Cast Aura on Squall Alone. You'll likely need to cast it a few times throughout the battle. You will need your other two party members to make sure everyone stays alive so don't bother using Aura on anyone else (unless you have Irvine in your party. his AP ammo can be useful and cause a lot of damage, but make sure your party isn't in jeopardy before using him. Slow and steady wins the race.)

The first few important things in the battle are to DRAW EDEN FROM HIM and cast Meltdown on him to make him more vulnerable to attacks. He'll take on a purple-ish hue after a successful Meltdown.

After this, your main priority will be using Squall's Renzokuken attack repeatedly whilst keeping your party's HP up. Keep using Squalls limit until the weapon is destroyed. But don't forget to draw Eden, the final and most powerful GF in the game.

Hope this helps!

As LemonyMog said, level is unimportant. What is important is your stats, as long as you have good enough stats you should be able to beat Ultima weapon with ease. What you should be doing is casting Aura on Squall and Meltdown on Ultima weapon. Everytime Squall attacks make him do Renzokuken/Lionheart. Use Quistis to heal the party, and Zell to do that too, if that's unnecessary get Zell to attack, Ultima weapon will take more damage due to Meltdown.

Ultima Weapon is not difficult at all. If your fighting Ultima Weapon at level 100 then you will have to knock off 160,000 hp. Set up your junctions correctly as I have said in previous posts (Ultima to Str, Meltdown to Vit etc...). Having Auto-Haste, Initative are great to start with on all characters. Cast Meltdown (enemy's Vit and Spr to 0) as soon as the battle begins. Cast Aura on team members and let rip your limit breaks and use Full Life magic (and maybe the Revive ability) when needed. Three Stars can also be stolen from the monster and also holds the Eden GF.

Side note:

WARNING: Defeating Ultima Weapon will remove the fixed encounter enemies in the Deep Sea Research Center. By doing this you will have a very hard time getting the items to refine the Luck J-Scroll's (refine to Luck Up) if the enemies are removed. Just a warning. So do NOT SAVE after the boss as been defeated if you want to keep the rare fixed encounters. The GF Eden can be obtained again in Ultimecia's Castle.
