I believe it was Aeris Gainsborough who suggested that maybe the summons in Final Fantasy XIII would reintroduce the world map and travel systems of old. Well I have the following questions and I want to know your opinions...

A.) First off, I want to know why you think they've been being weeded out of the newer games.
B.) Do you think this game will FINALLY bring back those things?
C.) Do you think it's good to bring back a world map and transportation for it?
D.) Do you think chocobos will play a small role in the game, as they have since FFX?

Ya it was me :) *feels special that someone listened*

A) well i think that it was because they couldnt handle it on the PS2 or couldnt really be bothered - besides wouldnt it be harder to make a controllable airship for the vast world that is spira and ivalice.

B) I hope so  X is amazing but its amazing map design is wasted

C) i think it is a good thing to bring the things back - adds a touch of traditionality back to the games ^_^

D) the Chocobos should play a small part in the game....or huge...i dont care as long as thier in it and not in the fudged up way they were in XII - and before anyone attacks me on that - chocobos are the only thing i dislike in XII.

Nah, I really doubt it. The main goal, since Final Fantasy X, has been to make things more realistic and to make battles feel more real. The World Map would likely end up bringing back random battles, which I don't feel I can go back to after Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XII. With the World Map would come the Airships and being able to roam freely with them - I kind of missed that in Final Fantasy X, but I've grown used to just walking everywhere now.

I don't want to go back to the past.

A) I believe it was just because they wanted to make it seem more realistic. However, I can't cast magic in real life, or do many other things that you can in fantasy worlds, so I ask: Why push for realism in a fantasy game?! Also, it's not to real to me to walk around in small areas while constantly running into walls, hills, mountains, and somehow impassible grass, trees, small rivers, and the like. Frankly, in my opinion, the world map is the more realistic of the two.

B) I highly doubt it. If they really work at it and utilize the PS3 (or whatever system) to it's full potential, then hopefully they will be able to make a combination of world map and whatever you want to call what they have right now, into one, genuinely realistic setting, kind of like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, or the good MMORPGs.

C) I heart the world map, so yes, of course I think it's a good idea.

D) I sure hope not. I really hope they bring them back with a vengeance. Best case scenario would be to bring back the ability to raise chocobos, but with even more options and choices this time.

i think the chiocobos were part of the VII succes, so yes, they should bring back the farm. but i saw some pix of XIII, the world is pretty in the far futur... chocobos in tha kind of world would be funny dont u think?

That's like saying Elephants would look funny in our near future when we turn hi tech.

Doesn't mean it can't work ;)

i would actually like the world map to come back, it was more chalenging then just having to click an area to go to your nex destination. Besides get used to the random battle again:P ! we've experienced it from 10 final fantasys, toughen up.

I'm not so sure you couldn't just make the airship like chocobos... no encounter. Or if you did re-add air encounters, you wouldn't necessarily have to make them "random encounters". You could just outrun normal enemies... or make it like a FPS minigame with AA guns. And then you could have specific battles on the top of the airship for key battles, like Omega Weapon in FFVII.
