I'm just wondering, does your family have any special traditions that they celebrate on a regular basis, say annualy?

'Cause I see these shows on TV all the time about gigantic family reunions participated in by hundreds of family members. o_O
Do any of you have that?

Or do you guys have any other traditions that you would like to share?
^_^

You know something, I keep hearing the world "family reunion" pop up as of late. I'm not exactly sure if my family on either side has ever actually had a family reunion before; I never actually got to intermingle with the extended part of my family until I was older. Uhm...as it is...I have a family reunion coming up on my dad's side of the family (which is the only side that I partially know). I'm not sure if I want to attend such an event and...bump into people I don't want to see, be forced into having conversations with strangers...ugh...

My family when I was growing up...(me, my brother, and my dad) had a few small traditions I guess. Take out the trash, empty the dishwasher, wash the dog.
I would usually put up the Christmas tree by myself, or...with my friends when they came over. We never really celebrated birthdays...we just handed money to each other, or in my case, I would give my dad a birthday card every year asking him to marry my best friend's mother. ^.^

The only o.m.g. fantastic tradition that my dad had was making seafood gumbo during the winter. That was the best part of my childhood I think...
Actually, I guess I could say...my dad had a tradition of making lots of really good meals in the winter time. Winter traditions were the best. ^.^

Oh yeah, that's definitely one downside of reunions. xD
Getting to meet people you've never even heard about in your life is kinda daunting, don'cha think? o_O

I mean, they're your relatives, and you barely know who they are, it's kinda awkward when you finally meet. Of course, you can hope for the best and just be yourself and all that jazz, but it's still quite weird.

It's happened to me a few times. I never even realized how gigantic my extended family was until summer 5 years ago. 0_0 Maybe I got to know a hundred new people who my mom says I'm supposed to know.

Yeah my family really wasn't the intimate, traditional kind either. Hell, even on things that pretty much any family would celebrate like most upcoming birthdays or holidays when I was growing up and living at home my stepdad would start arguments with the rest of the family and build up all this turmoil that would go on all week long just so he wouldn't have to fork over the money to celebrate any of these things haha. I think the only thing that he did do was buy Xmas presents for all of us, usually we got computer upgrades since we're all a family of computer geeks. But even xmas was never really ritualized. He always bought and gave us our gifts near the end of November lol.

I guess growing up that way, even now that I've moved out I really don't give a shit when my b-day rolls around, or xmas or any other holiday. Just another day to me.

The largest tradition that my family participates in is chinese new year. I don't really participate or do anything special, the most I do is go out to dinner, and not always to a chinese restaurant. I always wear red though, and I call my family then but besides that I don't do anything.

My family goes all out. They have the red packets which contain money and are passed out at dinner. They also make all the traditional food like nian gao and jau gok and my favorite, tikoy.

Reunions...yeah, I suppose we have those. I've only been to family reunions on my dad's side though. And when I say family reunion, that also includes birthdays, Christmas, and New Years. 200 or more people attend - that includes relatives, friends, and random people they bring with them. It's usually held at someone's house (not to mention huge) and each year, the location differs.

My grandma is usually the one that makes and hosts the events, such as prizes, games, raffle tickets, etc. Lol one time I was awarded for "Best in Math and Science" award...that was so embarrassing! I hate science and math. I asked her, "Why did I get this?" and she quickly told me to be quiet. -_- ...grandmas...

Then we'll have dances and competitions...it's crazy. It's always full of music and laughters and children running all over the place...and gamblers and drunkards, lol. It's been years since I last attended one though, since I'm all the way out here in Ohio and they're in California. >.<

Sometimes there's even drama during such events. Lol like people who are angry at each other being in the same house, and others trying to settle the problem and people crying after they make up. It's so cheesy, lol.

Or a drunkard having too much to drink and gets in a fist-fight with one of my uncles (not really blood-related) and everyone screaming while the music's blaring...such excitement, I tell ya'.

But yeah, I love those. It's always fun, even if I don't know some of the people. It's cool meeting them. Everyone pretty much know everyone though since we've been doing it for years.

I have a big famely but we don't really have famely reunions. The last famely reunion I went to I was a kid. And there was funny fight that happened.

The last 'family reunion' I had when I was 8 years old. That was on my mom side of the family though. I've only seen two members on my mom side of the family since. Once in a while I visit my uncles on my dad side.

My family doesn't do any 'special' traditions..family as in my parents and my bother. The only thing my family are traditional about are holidays. We celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, and easter. Thats about it, I'm forced to 'spend time with my family'.

My Family is too broken to have reunions and such.
I've only met my uncle out of all my parent's brothers and sisters.

The only tradition my family has is going to church every Christmas.
We do it every year no matter what.
