Hey guys and gals! Great site here :)

I have RACKED MY BRAIN and probably due to too many...chemicals...pumped through my body several years ago, I cannot for the LIFE of me remember any of the old FF communities out there.

Hopefully this isn't viewed as a conflict of interest here but I was wondering if ANYONE had ever been involved in one of those mid to late 90s FF communities. I think one was ffonline.net or something to that effect...another had to do with Chocobos and another had to do with the music but was later expanded to just be a Final Fantasy fan hub...I can't freakin remember!

Anyways, does anyone here remember any of those old websites? I could use URLs of the old ones to find their new names or ANYTHING that might help me find them would be fantastic.

I BELIEVE ffshrine.org was one of them but I haven't done enough digging there to find out if it's one of those sites I remember as a teen. Who knows? Maybe they're all dead and gone but I'd like to know as I am looking for someone in particular who frequented those sites 15 or so years ago. Thanks yall! And perhaps I'll check back here from time to time. Lovely community ya got goin here and a wonderful replacement for them old sites :)

I can't remember if FFExtreme kicked off in the late 90's or early 00's. :hmmm: I think Square Insider may have been another. They are the first forums I ever joined; roughly ten years ago and I think those two communities had already been established for a few years by that point.

Hey this is TRGMatt from above...using my gamertag as a username for here now so if a mod wants to delete my other account, feel free.

Yeah FFextreme was a site that began shortly after the others I am referring to. I remember going there years ago but it's not quite what I was looking for. Even after sleep I can't remember the names of them lol

It looks like most of the older FF sites just...died. Even ffshrine and ffextreme seem to be dead these days, as of about 2010. THat's unfortunate.

If anyone else can help me out, I'd appreciate it. I am probably going to get a LITTLE involved in this community in the coming months with FFXIV on the horizon and Lightning Returns at the end of the year. Now if the Chrono series could just get another sequel...I digress.

finalfantasy.net is another one that appears to have been bought out by another company or just COMPLETELY changed. I can't believe I am forgetting these sites' names...I used to go there DAILY for YEARS lol

If I recall, FFE went through insane amounts of drama for some time. A constant shifting in staff, much of whom fell out with each other, etc. etc. It eventually died as a result. The old Webmaster, Dave (aka. Mistah Roth) went on to create PSBeyond.net (or .com) along with Starsailor Ben and a lot of FFE'ers moved over to that place. That eventually died and last time I checked, I'm pretty sure it just became a place that focused on featuring content Playstation related on their web page. :hmmm:

Is there any reason you are trying to hunt down these places? If it's all content and stuff like that, this forum has recently get its own front page that is rapidly filling up with some pretty solid content relating to the forum and also Final Fantasy in general. Give it a bit more time and I'm sure the editorial staff will have built up a huge selection of various articles and updates, etc. And we do have an awesome community. You might enjoy sticking around here.

If not, I wish you luck finding these older sites. :monster:

I remember FFE. One site though that sticks out that is still around is UFF9, which at first was a site dedicated entirely to FF9 but they have expanded since then to cover all the FFs.

Most of the older FFs from the late 90s to early 00s, will have either died or with a dead forum but still active editorial staff. FFshring.org is still around and active, but wear sunglasses when you get to the forum cause the layout is bright as hell.

I wish you good luck in finding your friend. One of the terrible things I hate in life is losing touch with someone I met on the net, cause it's very very hard to find them.

Apparently finalfantasy.net used to be called Square Enix Forums before that or SEF for short.

I used to visit it daily for a few years around 2003-2005. It was very popular.

Then one day the owner sold it and then it became FinalFantasy.net and was dead for ages but when I search for it now it looks totally different. =/

Heheh. Yeah, I remember FFExtreme back in the old days. I was known as Iceman (the baker) and had lots of fun there. Made a few friends, picked up a couple girls (one of which I almost married), and they helped me through some hard times. I used to post in the shoutbox there after a night of drinking. heheh. Those were some fun days. I still keep up with some members there on facebook.

Also used to post on Square Extreme as Iceman (the baker) and also on FFShrine (as Animal) Square Legacy, and a few others I don't remember off hand. I went by either Iceman or Animal on most forums. If any of you remember me, tell me who you are... I like reconnecting with old members. I really miss those days of the internet ya know...
