So. Sin (Jecht) let Auron ride him to Dream Zanarkand, where he looks after that Tidus brat for 10 years. One night, he comes back, and takes both Auron and Tidus to Spira - but before he did that, Auron asked him "you are sure?" and Sin just chilled there.

My question is... is Jecht coherent? Why can't he just swim around like a whale forever instead of killing bitches and hoes and destroying Spira? I know Yu Yevon created him, but the only explanation I can think of is that part of that creation was not just a physical body, but a certain mindset and urges ultimately comes with it.

That sounds right to me, but nobody ever actually explained it. It's just an educated guess. So I just want to make sure.

Jecht wanted to die. Auron explained that in the game. The reason sin keeps following Tidus is because he wants Tidus to kill him so he (sin) will not hurt anyone anymore.

My assumption is that yes, Jecht is coherent. You can assume that because of Sin (Jecht) is always going to temples. Jecht, when he was alive, enjoyed the hymn of the fayth. That's why you were able to use the song as a way of 'weakening' him towards the end of the game.

Sorry about using Spoiler tags, but I was getting into a few spoilery type things and I didn't want to ruin the game for anyone who is curious but hasn't finished the game yet :-)

That was something I always throught about as well. But Yatsumiko explained what Auron said in the game.

But I also think that
Yu Yevon's possession of Jecht takes it's time and it's a gradual thing before Jecht "becomes Sin completely". Jecht said at the end of the game "I can't hear the hymn so well anymore. Pretty soon I'm going to be Sin...completely." I think during the first 10 years it could have been a struggle of wills between Jecht and Yu Yevon. But like Yatsumiko said, at times Jecht killed because he had to show Tidus that Sin needs to be stopped. Permanently. I think Jecht went into the chamber with Lady Yunalesca with the mindset that his son can come to Spira and defeat him, and if he was anything like his father then he would want to break the cycle. In the end I think Jecht sort of planned it out that way

Excellent. You answered everything perfectly! I understand it now. Thank you, kind sir. Or ma'am. Whatever you are. Don't really care either way.
