I was thinking about this while responding to another thread, and I thought it warranted its own discussion. What did you all think of the SeeD Exam?

I, for one, thought it was an interesting way to combine some of the in-game tutorials with a proper "mission", and I liked how your performance in the various challenges affected your score so much. I also liked the opportunity for a "bonus" by destroying the XATMblahblah after the first battle.

What are your thoughts? Love it? Hate it? WHAT? :monster:

I thought as far as the storyline goes the SeeD Field Exam was necessary. It was a way to show how teamwork would be done and to follow the orders of a mission. It did add an interesting challenge twist to the points system for the test as well. I remember one of my playthroughs trying to gain as much compatability as I could with my GF's, and getting 0 points on the Attack score. :ness: Getting 100 points for that would take way too long, and I wouldn't have the patience for it either.

I've also never actually killed X-ATM, I just defeat him the first time and run (to get a better score on Conduct). Another feat I feel takes too much time, and of course, don't have the patience for.

But I think for the scope of the game, it was a very good thing to have. It helped give you a better feel for the game as well.

like the guy above said, for the story line it was imoportant fit in well, i liked it, it was veary fitting way to put in tutorials

Yeah, I actually liked the way they combined it like that. Gave me the feel that it was a real exam. Different from school, but the feel of taking a test to pass was still there. It was an interesting way to develop the story, so I was all for it.

I thought it was fun and something different. I did like the tutorial aspect to it a lot, and getting "paychecks" based on my rank really did make me feel like I was a part of a military program. (Aw, I miss this game.)

I liked the SeeD Exam's. They not only gave me a little more to do but also gave me a little more gil which is always nice. ;D Also, it was a great way to "force" you into doing a tutorial-like theme. I like games that force you to learn what your doing AND give you a bonus for doing it!

Loved it.

Not because it taught me anything. But because of all the GIL.

I did the first five or six SeeD tests fair and square. But then i got an idea and tried it out. And it worked. No i didn't check up the answers on the net or ask a friend or any such thing.

Thereafter I was able to pass the tests without even seeing the questions. Loved it because it gave me so much money from the start of the game :D

I don't get it. Is the thread about the mission to become SeeD or about the exams you can take in order to improve the SeeD rank?

Anyway. I liked the mission because it was part of the great FFVIII's plot.

I didn't really like the exams you can take to raise SeeD rank.
They were kind of annoying. I didn't really need extra money at any point and it is just a waste of time IMO. I thought I'll get something great if I finish all of it.
But I was wrong and I got nothing. I didn't really learned anything from it as well, as I just aimed to finish it and just remembered where I need "Yes" and where "No".

It was a good tutorial on how to play the game, at least in my opinion. It was also a good plot event. I kinda wish there were more missions, though, cause it ended too fast and it was enjoyable
