The Secret of Memories
[Prologue]

Everybody remembers something. Some things are not meant to be remembered. Even after we lose our memory, we still continue to remember things. Some of the past is revealed in what was the present, but we chose to forget it. This is because of peace.

They say peace is the enemy of memory. Peace not only makes us forget memories, but it also makes it so that we do not take note of anything, having very little memory of what happened while we were at peace. Because of this, we only feel at peace for a short time and feel in conflict for a long time, even when we were at peace longer than when we have conflict.

Our memories also hold secrets to the present, no matter how small or large the secret may be. When we lose all memory, we are fully unaware of these secrets. Sometimes, the fact that one lost his or her memory can even change who they are. Take as an example, a good man accidentally kills someone, and he does not want to risk getting convicted for murder. Now he is filled with paranoia and he might become a serial killer out of the paranoia. When he loses all memory, he no longer has anything to be paranoid about, so he no longer kills. Now, the entire future is a secret to him in every way.

In this story, one man has forgotten everything of his past. He is unaware of the darkness that shrouds his past in blood and power. To him, his life has restarted. Everything he once knew…gone. He doesn’t even know his own name. The armor he wears carries designs he is foreign to, and his sword seems to carry a special force that he cannot gain a grasp onto. He knows his past will tell him everything he needs to know, but he cannot simply remember it. He has to discover it for his own. He must find the people who once knew him without knowing who they are. His journey is through his own life. With a blue crystal sword and sapphire armor, he needs to learn the secrets of his future.

But what he has forgotten will haunt him. There is a force that he came from that will stop at nothing to eliminate him. This force is of the 5 most powerful beings in the world, but one has gone missing…this one being was the strongest being to ever exist. His power is beyond immaculate. Through sheer force, he could bring the gods to their knees and force them to obey his order, order being the kindest of the words. Who is this being? What could he have left to do?

But they are not the only darkness. The past of a saddened soul desires the end of sorrow and suffering, His goals are backed by his ideal world, one without violence, death, and depression. However, while his ideal world has nothing bad, it also has nothing good. His ideal world is absolute nothingness, barren of all life. He chose his dream, and he will pursue it to no end…

The sky was black with speckles of light scattered across the sky. A large circle sat in the air, illuminating the empty field. Wind brushed through like a thousand soldiers rushing for their first drink an years. The plants all leaned in the direction of the wind, as if to guide it all through a tiresome journey. Not a single tree was in sight.

“Ungg…ah…” A voice seemed to ring out of the depths of hell. A man with blond hair wearing sapphire blue armor tight onto his skin lye in the middle of a grassy plain with winds rushing sop fast holding ones composure would be near impossible if they had no added weight. The armor he wore bore odd symbols not even he knew anything about. Placing his hand on his head, all he felt was extreme pain throughout his entire body, but he bore no wounds.

“Wha-…” his crystal blue eyes shut tightly, wrinkling his eyebrows. He then let his arm fall to his side. Everything on him seemed to be lifeless, but it was all definitely alive. The pain told him so. It’s…hard to move…

After lying still for quite some time, this man stood up. The intense wind blew his hair towards the back of his head. He looked around him and saw nothing other than a sword made from blue crystal lying next to where he just was. Obeying his instinct, he picked the sword up and held it into the air to examine it. It had only a single edge, but it was lethally sharpened. Is this mine? I can’t help but feel as though I need this…

This man had no memory of anyone. Yes, he is the man in the prologue. His memory is so impaired he cannot even remember his own name. Not only that, but he doesn’t even know what he looks like. However, he was not alone in this place. Another being stayed hidden in the distance of the night, watching every move this man made. His face was hidden under a mask that even covered his eyes. The mask showed no facial features, not even a nose. Instead, this cold steel mask cut off any clues to what he may look like. Calling him human would be generous.

Despite having his eyes covered, this man could still see what was ahead of him. His eyes were not that of any human’s eyes and they could see more than what is there, but he sees what is.

The man with no memories had no idea where or who he was, but he knew he had to do something. Staying here wouldn’t do anything. He chose the direction the wind was coming from. Each step was heavy and almost seemed to be the footsteps of the damned. He had no idea where he was going, but he knew it would lead him somewhere with a little more than this nothingness. All he could do was let his footsteps guide him.

However, it seemed he had chosen the correct direction. It was in the distance, but it would serve to be sufficient enough for him. He could see several houses and buildings lined up in the distance. It was either a large town or a small city, meaning it probably had an inn or some other place for him to think in peace. As soon as he saw it, he began to run full speed.

He felt really light on his feet, making one thing clear to him. He was obviously a very fit person. His breath was not short or heavy, even with the armor on his body. He also took note of his speed. His past definitely was one that kept him in shape.

He arrived in no time and from the looks of it, it was definitely a small city. There wasn’t much life, but he also figured it would be since it was so late at night. The wind hadn’t helped. He did decide to wander around though. He could see that there were much residential housing where he had entered. However, having no memory, he also had no clue as to where inns and other commercial businesses might be, so all he had to do was wander around even more.

Despite the seemingly dead area of this city, he did feel as though he was being followed. Constantly glancing back, he never did spot anything. But the feeling never went away…

Ignoring the feelings of being stalked in the night, the memory lacking man continued to search for a place to stay. But it wasn't very long until he came across a building with lights on and a large sign reading, "Nightfalls Inn." He deiced to enter and see if he could get a room, but as soon as the door opened he was greeted by a man.

This man had glasses. They were square and this man was also a thin, but seemingly healthy. "About time you came back. Your partner's upstairs."

Without saying a word, the armored man headed up the stairs. He figured it was best to just role with it and pretend he knew what was going on. There were two rooms, one had the door closed and the other as open with lights on. Common sense told him that his room was the one with the light on. He didn't hesitate to walk inside, and when he did, he began to take off his armor. There was what seemed to be a manikin for this very use next to the bed in the room. He used it and appropriately mounted his armor atop it.

Now his body was revealed. His arms and upper-chest were all covered in clean and well maintained bandages. He also found the same on his legs going from his knees to his feet. Apparently he had already been here because there was a pair of pants, a shirt, and a hoodie lying on the bed. First thing was first, he put on this pair of black denim pants. It was easy to tell they were well worn in, but they were also clean. They must have been recently washed.

To a sudden surprise came a random force of physical matter onto his back, almost making him fall. It was definitely another person, probably the partner mentioned earlier. This person was a female, and she was laughing cheerfully. All he could see of her was her long blue hair that fell over his shoulder. Attempting to turn and get her off his back and get a good look at her, but instead she held on tight.

When she jumped off and stopped smiling, he finally was able to look at her. She looked rather young and full of energy. Wearing a pair of brown leather boots matching her leather gloves, there was an orange scarf around her neck. Completely covering her breasts, but showing most of what was below and above was a black top. Matching her boots and gloves was a brown leather belt that hugged her waist with a pair of rather short shorts.

Cheerfully speaking, this girl began, "Hey, glad to see you made it back alive. You aren't even scratched, as usual. Then again, how could I expect any change out of you, you always were the best! Especially the way you handle that sword of solid crystal!" She spoke quickly, offering no time to let anyone respond, but when she finished she began to imitate the swinging of the sword. She then realized his silence and looked him in the eyes in a now serious manner. "What's wrong? Don't you remember me? It's Tianna!"

He took a pause. Reaching his hand in the pocket of his pants, he felt something. He pulled out a card. It was an identity card that had a blood stain on it. The picture was faded and it was nearly impossible to see who the picture was of. But the name was clear. Reading it aloud, he said, "Skylar Toshio...is that me?"

"Hey, are you ok?"

"Am I Skylar Toshio?"

"I don't really know, you people always go under alias's so people like us never know your names!"

Now speaking under his breath, "You people..." Looking the girl directly into her sea-blue eyes, he spoke louder, "You can call me Skylar Toshio from now on. That's my name, I guess."

"You guess? But you told me to call you 'Blue' as your name!"

"I'll just put this blunt and to the point. I seem to be suffering from amnesia. And badly. I don't remember anything, not even you."

Shocked, the girl didn't know what to say. She hesitated to speak for a moment, but proceeded to say, "Well, get some sleep and maybe it'll come back in the morning...maybe..." She looked down and clenched her fist to her heart, then quickly turned away.

Thinking for a moment, Skylar laid on his bed and thought for a few seconds. Could he really gain his memory with sleep? Turning off the light, he then turned onto his side and said quietly, "Maybe..."

Birds. The first word crossing Skylar's mind as he heard the sound of songs being sung through nature. The sun was coming in through the window and shining directly into Skylar's eyes, almost as if it was placed to wake the Inn's customers. Obeying his mind, he decided it was time to get up and put his shirt on and go get some breakfast. Grabbing his orange T-shirt, a necklace fell from the shirt. Examining it, it had a pendant on it that had a dragon wrapping it's body around a round jewel. Not knowing what it was, he put it on, along with his shirt.

Heading out the door of his room, he noticed Tianna must have already left. Not doubting he would see her soon, Skylar proceeded to walk down the stairs and into the Inn's diner. Despite it being in a city, it wasn't a particularly busy place. There was a small group of three people, all males, at the bar. That was about it for now. Approaching the bar tender, Skylar was quick to say what he wanted. "Just give me 2 over-easy eggs and 2 pieces of butter toast." The bar tender was quick to nod and walk to the kitchen. Within a few seconds, he came back out and charged Skylar for the appropriate amount. It was reasonably priced.

Skylar sat down and say a news paper sitting by him. He figured that with his amnesia, it couldn't hurt to get a sense of what was going on in the world. The first thing he saw on the paper was a large headline on page 1. There were no pictures, instead it was all writing.

Ravenous Killer Strikes Again!

The unknown killer dubbed 'Death's angel' has struck again. The families of the victim chose not to have the information released, so there will be no word as of now to where he is. Local and nearby areas have been warned of his strikes, but the information will not exceed local areas. There is still nothing known about this killer other than that this person targets the lower people of society. Police and other local authorities have this reason to believe that the killer is an aristocrat that despises the poor, thus trying to kill them off.

That was as far as Skylar got to read before his plate was brought to him. Eating it quickly, he then left a small tip and got up to head up the stairs and back into his room. He hadn't focused on very much detail, but he didn't feel the need to. Instead, he put on the red hoodie he saw laying on his bed from last night. It must have been there while he was sleeping. He decided to check his pockets, maybe there was something there to reveal a bit about himself. Feeling slightly disappointed, he didn't feel anything.

Hearing a random knock on his door, he turned around to see Tianna once again. "Hey," She spoke cheerfully, "Remember anything?"

Skylar looked her in the eyes. "No, I really don't. Sorry."

"Hey, don't be sorry, it's not like you did anything. They said your mark was a tough one that swipes memories, but from the looks of it, you lived, so I guess that's the important part. Now hurry up and let's go, go, go! Did you get breakfast, sleepy-head?"

Skylar smirked slightly at how cheery she was. "No I don't remember, yes that's the important part, and yes I had breakfast already."

Tianna now was slightly surprised at the way he was now acting, and he voice reflected her surprise. "Wow, you still talk the same, but you've never smiled to me. In that case, maybe it was for the better!" She said in a joking manner. She was in a highly up-beat mood.

Skylar glanced at her with a smile, almost as if he was laughing inside. He then looked at his armor and wondered, do I have to wear that around? He then realized that he most likely had gone on previous missions with Tianna. She was hinting strongly to that idea, so it wasn't ludicrous. "Hey Tianna, how do I usually transport my armor?"

Tianna looked at him with curiosity. "You've forgotten everything haven't you?" She was now concerned. If he had forgotten everything, this would be a very complicated future for the two. But she would help him through it. She would help him through it no matter what. To her, Skylar was a brother. "I'm not sure how you do it, but you take your sword and tap the handle onto the chest plate and it...well, you'll see if you can do it again."

Grabbing the crystal sword he found last night that was clearly his own, he did as she said, tapping the butt end onto the breast-plate. Not knowing how he had just done this, the armor seemed to be engulfed in a blue aura that was sucking it into the hilt, creating a small and perfectly round blue crystal. It was the same crystal that the blade of the sword made up.

"See? You once told me that the armor was a part of the sword, and it was one of the many benefits of wielding it. You call it the 'Descendants Sword' if I can remember right. But that was all you told me."
She was suddenly cheerful again.

"Shall we go?" Skylar said, as he began walking out the door, sword in hand.
