I don't think that it was Zack because he was shot in his chest repeatedly by multiple machine guns, so he's dead.
 
prove he was shot in the chest ! the graphics make it impossible to tell ! he could be being shot in the stomach or arms etc !
 
in my eyes it looks like he was shot in the head more than the chest . i still want to believe that he didnt die tho !

A shot in the head is more deadly then a shot in the stomach or arms. So he clearly died on that mountain top.

Then again several of my characters have been crushed by Comets, so whats a small thing like Machine gun bullets gonna do :P

Eitherway, its not Zack its a Sephiroth Clone. Zack is dead. End of pointless topic.
 
Zack is dead, there are great myths and theories to counteract but I firmly believe he is dead.

What we should be asking ourselves is

"Who is the man in the tunnel with #2 tattooed on his hand?"

The idea of being #2 next to Sephiroth is quite an awsome thing. Could the power be something more than that of a loony old man?

And has he been seen anywhere else in the game after he leave to join the "reunion"?

Seriously I'm going to look back and see what I can find.

Final Fantasy Advent Children confirms that Zack had been killed by gun shots.
 
Everyone who believes that Zack did not die on that hill is mentally retarded. It's fucking obvious and he's not the fucking man in that fucking pipe.

I don't think that the guy in the pipe was Zack. I still believe that Zack was dead by then, plus even if it was him it doesn't make any difference since he was dead by AC

if you read the reports in the libuary in the shinra mansion you would know that zack had died. he also had no reaction to jenova or mako energy. so it couldent be him!!
 
It can't be Zack. If you recall, Cloud or Aeris (I forgot which one) noticed he had a tatoo on his arm with a number on it. Clearly, he's one of Sephiroth's followers.
 
If you read the scattered report in the basement of the Shinra Mansion in Nibelheim, it says that one of the men were shot and dead on sight. Then it says that one was so badly injured that he was just left to die. Since Cloud obviously survived, I would have to say that the man in the slums is definitely not Zack. I love this theory though, it's the first time I've heard of it.It would create a few more twists to the plot. I think that the Jenova cells had no effect on Zack, and that's why he was a failred experiment, and if they fail at making him controlable, I think they would fail to make him stronger or survive bullet shots, too. They either effect you, or they don't. I think the man was put there just as a little foreshadowing, so when you get to the part where Cloud gets mako poisoning you think, hey... wasn't there a guy at the beginning who couldn't speak and was acting like this? Now that I think about it, who would think to take someone to the Midgar slums when they found him like that? 0.o Anyway, it's really not definite either way, but I think more evidence points toward the fact that it's not Zack. Just for fun though, I think I will argue that it is Zack after a few more people post. Good topic idea! =]
 
Is everyone forgetting that this guy had a number tattoo? Cloud and Zack never had tattoos, so this guy is obviously one of the failed attempts at cloning Sephiroth.
