The Jap, Eng, ending debate

I don't know if I commented on this yet, but I voted for 'I love you'. It's really a matter of culture and how you felt about the game and/or the relationship between Tidus and Yuna. In Japan, 'thank you' was more acceptable. I hear that they're not very big on saying 'I love you' or anything like that unless you're really close and even then, they don't say it that often. Unless I'm wrong on that. It's just what I've heard about Japanese culture. In contrast, American's and Westerners are big on sappy stuff. They prefer the characters to fall in love. And the 'I love you' is more fulfilling for them to hear from a character in this situation.

Both make sense to me. Her saying thank you for saving her life, and the other is her declaring her love for him. Both make sense. It actually would've been nice to hear her say both. Something like:

"Thank you for everything.......I love you".

To me, that would've been perfect.

I've thought this before myself, but then there's was something incredibly beautiful and heartbreaking in the fact Yuna only said one thing to Tidus. It's almost as though she knew she had limited time. Furthermore, she was overwhelmed with emotion - speaking at all was incredibly difficult, so she could only say something short.

The lack of words suggest to me that she's heartbroken and in shock which wouldn't have come across had she said everything,. She's completed her journey, done more than she dreamed of doing, saved Spira for good... She would have felt so much relief! And then suddenly, whilst everyone else is probably starting to celebrate, she finds out that the love of her life is going to disappear for ever - as a consequence of her actions, no less. :/ Tidus was a necessary sacrifice. and she didn't even know she was making that sacrifice until the damage had been done.

They both make sense but I think it was more important to her that she thanked him for helping her on her journey, I like the drama it adds to X-2 in which the reason why she just can't let go is because she never told him how she felt.

Yuna is a completely selfless person, that's the whole point of her character, so I can see how her consciously not saying "I love you" was something she saw as a selfless act, even if she came to regret it later. So I have to side with the Japanese version as I just think it taps into that very well written and intimate side of her character.
