This is the thread where all the headbangers out there can come together and discuss the beauty of a guitarist unleashing an ear-orgasmic solo, the lament of the double kick, or just heavy metal in general. What are your favourite bands? Which bands have released their latest album? Where are bands touring this year? Whatever, anything. Whether you are into old school Sabbath, melodic death, metalcore, post-hardcore, screamo, doom, epic doom, viking, power, speed, mathcore, deathcore, thrash, gothic, death, monster, sludge.. any kind of metal, you are welcome to post.

Me, I love Metalcore and Deathcore. My favourite bands are:

Atreyu
I Killed The Prom Queen
The Devil Wears Prada
Trivium
36 Crazyfists
As I Lay Dying
It Dies Today
Chimaira
Children Of Bodom
Job For A Cowboy
Underoath
blessthefall
Cause For Alliance
All That Remains
Lamb Of God
August Burns Red

*NOTE* If this thread has already been posted, then I am sorry for not looking. Delete if need be.

Anything with the suffix "core" or the prefix "post" or "nu" immediately triggers my gag reflex, but I do like me some old school heavy metal, doom metal, thrash metal, and to a certain extent also some black and death metal bands.

Some favourites would be:

Black Sabbath (all time favourite)
Pentagram
Witchfinder General
Rainbow
Dio
Manilla Road
Judas Priest
Brocas Helm
King Diamond/Mercyful Fate
Venom
Motörhead
Saxon

Heavy Metal FTW!
I like the old school metal or the original metal (Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath , Motorhead, etc.)
I also like..
Post-hardcore - Saosin, Alexisonfire
Nu Metal - Slipknot, Linkin Park, Deftones, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit
Alternative Metal - System of a Down
Rap Metal - Rage against the Machine

I'm pretty sure there is a similar thread somewhere. But hey know one can have too much metal after all ;)

I'm a huge fan. I've been listening to it since I was born (according to legend, literally) and grew up on the likes of Maiden, Sabbath, Motorhead, Megadeth and Metallica.

Other top bands that I love, ranging styles and periods;

Annihilator
Arch Enemy
Armoured Saint
Baroness
Beyond Fear
Blaze
Bonded By Blood
Bruce Dickinson
Cacophony
Cathedral
Church of Misery
Cirith Ungol
Confessor
Corrosion of Conformity
Danzig
Death
Deep Purple
Demons and Wizards
Dio
Down
Dream Evil
Eidolon
Electric Wizard
Exodus
Gamma Bomb
Grand Magus
Gwar
Halford
Iced Earth
Iommi
Isis
Judas Priest
King Diamond
Laaz Rockit
Marty Friedman
Mastodon
Mercyful Fate
Metal Church
Pantera
Priestess
Primal Fear
Queensrych
Rage Against the Machine
Rainbow
Rebel Meets Rebel
Rush
Saxon
Skyclad
Slayer
Spirit Caravan
Testament
Turbonegro
Xentrix

and many others.

NP; Heaven and Hell - Fear (yes I know it's not out, I'm a downloader. shoot me. but I recommend it though)

Metal is forever! >D

I have a relatively wide range of styles, from old school heavy to progressive metal. Some of my favourite bands:

Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Iced Earth
Helloween
Judas Priest
Primal Fear
Megadeth
Angra
Pantera
Dream Theater
Symphony X
Kamelot
Slayer
Nevermore
Dead Soul Tribe
Pain of Salvation
Devin Townsend
Sonata Arctica
and anything that has Arjen Anthony Lucassen on it.

To name a few. =P

I started listening to heavy metal at the age of 13, when a friend of mine introduced me to Iron Maiden. Then I experimented on lots of styles. I went to my first metal show when I was 15, and my first Iron Maiden show (which was EPIC) in march 20! (yeah, recently :D)

I like you. I can't stand metalcore and all those faggy scene kids that go to raves and smoke weed like their cool kids and thrash around to terrible vocals.

/rant

Dio is the fucking god of rock. Actually I don't even much care for Black Sabbath (blasphemy I know) except for the years that he was vocalist. King Diamond I just can't take seriously because of the vocals though, it makes me lol uncontrollably.

Nu Metal - Slipknot, Linkin Park, Deftones, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit
Alternative Metal - System of a Down
Rap Metal - Rage against the Machine

Hate Slipknot with a burning passion, oddly enough I like Corey Taylor's side project Stone Sour alot. I love Linkin Park and Disturbed, hate Bizkit, Deftones bores me.

SOAD is just...well I guess "alternative" describes them really well, those guys are crazy but I love all their stuff. David Malakian's own band Scars on Broadway is also really good...not sure what genre of metal it falls under, it sounds like Mesmerize/Hypnotize though.

Rage Against the Machine I'm iffy about, some songs I love, some I just say "meh" too. Now let's see, others I like:

Testament
Nevermore
Opeth
Mötley Crüe
Dimmu Borgir
D'espairsRay
Rentrer en Soi
Maximum the Hormone
Ozzy Osbourne
Rammstein (industrial metal, or something?)
Guns N' Roses (only their first album, after that they turn into southern rock crap)
Velvet Revolver (do they count? I don't know)

Yeah Dio is probably my favourite singer ever, and even though it seems like cigarettes and age has caught up with him these days, he's still better than 99% of the competition. My favourite performance of his would probably be from the Rainbow Live In Munich 1977 DVD. His vocals on their cover of Deep Purple's Mistreated are just out of this world amazing. He's my favourite Sabbath singer as well. I love all of them, but Dio is just the best.

Rage Against the Machine is a joke and not a metal band by a long shot. It's hilarious how they keep crying about their revolutionary anti-capitalistic/pseudo-communistic views, yet they are firmly in the pockets of big business. RATM and most of their side projects/post RATM bands have all come out on the Epic label. A part of the Sony family.

In contrast, Dio, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath etc. etc. don't tickle my fancy. I really have a problem against 'old' things eg. Cars (can't stand hotrods) and bands. Don't get me wrong, Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden etc. have some songs which I wouldn't mind listening to. However nothing can beat the double kick in pure metalcore and deathcore.

I don't mind nu-metal, but I detest Slipknot. I don't know why but I just don't like them. Linkin Park kicks ass, but only the old 'Hybrid Theory' and 'Meteora' Linkin Park, none of that 'Minutes To Midnight' bullcrap. Although in the song 'Given Up', there is a screaming part which could suggest a metalcore future (hopefully)? Hmm, Disturbed, yeah okay, 'Liberate' is a cool song. I love System Of A Down, began listening to them ages ago.

Couldn't agree with you more, Dio just has the best metal voice I've heard. And it really is amazing, even WITH age and cigarettes his voice is still pretty damn good.

Metalcore has horrible vocalists, it's all amateur growling and mediocre singing. The music itself isn't all that impressive either. Course it's still not as bad as Dragonforce. They're pretty much the ultimate wannabe band.

And you don't like "old" things? What? I'm sorry but that's the dumbest prejudice I've heard in a good while. Christ, most music (of any genre) these days sucks, and I'm constantly finding myself listening to older music, from the 90's all the way back to the 60's. All you're doing is denying yourself some brilliant music just because "it's old." What, is it not cool to listen to anything pre-2000's now or something?

Besides, how can you have a problem with something this amazing?

I would kill to be able to see something like that. To me, that will always be what metal is supposed to be.

Ugh, don't remind me of Minutes to Midnight. Hybrid Theory and Meteora were fantastic, then along came that stupid remix album, then that crap with Jay-Z, and then finally Minutes to Midnight. They're deteriorating rapidly...so actually it wouldn't surprise me if they turned to metalcore >_>

Just to continue the Dio lovin':
now THAT is what I'm talking about. Ritchie Blackmore is fantastic in this clip as well. Definitely my favourite guitarist alongside Tony Iommi. Oh and you'd be hard pressed to find a better rythm section than Cozy Powell and Bob Daisley.

Talking about Dio, has anyone heard the new Black Sabbath album?

I've heard the new Sabbath album. Leaked on the 'net about a month ago and been listening to it often since. It's good but it's more of the doom sound than their typical Dio sound. Think Dehumanizer kinda heavy but Master of Reality doomy.

I'd agree with those comparisons. It's a great album, and there isn't one bad song on it. A lot of people over at the black-sabbath.com board don't like Rock and Roll Angel, but I think it's a great tune and a nice change of pace in the middle of the album.

Been listening a lot to Accept's Balls to the Wall album lately. Great heavy metal album with a ballsy production, audible bass, and great vocals. Any other fans?

Holy fuck I'm a member of that board. Hardly ever there though, and haven't logged in for like a year....might go check in now actually...

Ah Balls to the Wall, what a darn good album :highfive:

I like a few Metal(core?) bands like As I lay Dying and some Post hardcore like Alexisonfire and Attack Attack

Now here's a thread I relate to. \m/

Metallica
Iron Maiden
Dio
Black Sabbath
Slayer
Megadeth
Judas Priest
Motorhead
Nightwish (some people dispute their metalness. My answer? See them live. Empuu is a damn fine metal guitarist. The music is heavy and intense as hell. With obviously a few exceptions with the new album.)
Therion
Dream Theater
Symphony X
Opeth
Ayreon
Manowar

I play the guitar myself, so how could I not be a fan of these bands. They make the guitar what it is.

Dio is the fucking god of rock. Actually I don't even much care for Black Sabbath (blasphemy I know) except for the years that he was vocalist.
I had the pleasure of seeing them live last year in Melbourne, with Dio. He is my favourite male vocalist of all time, and he sounds fantastic even now. Heaven and Hell was the highlight - an unforgettable experience. Geez the guy looks like a hobbit though, lol. :P

What does everyone feel about Metallica's newest album, Death Magnetic?

entirley agree with all of these xD you got it spot on, though you did miss out van halen, ac/dc, and also i like slipknot, tho not really a heavy metal band

Oh I didn't miss them out - trust me I'm a massive Van Halen and AC/DC fan (I'm dying to get to AC/DCs concert in Melbourne x_x oh why sell out so quick, why!?) just didn't want to make the list too lengthy, lol. Plus I kind of considered them more Rock, well at least AC/DC anyway.

Angus Young FTW. I have a guitar just like his. <3

Slipknot are a heavy metal band. Anyone who disagrees is an idiot, and I'm not even a fan.

Just had Exodus' discography blasting out of my speakers on random. Finally the housemates girlfriend has left, hopefully at least until he returns from work mwhaha

Always good when those pesky 'it's too loud!' people leave the house. Excellent time to to take advantage, and ruin your hearing with sweet, sweet metal. <3

Personally, I have to have my music loud. To drown out the white guy next door that thinks he's a black gangsta.

Oh she isn't a "It's too loud" person, she just don't like Exodus or much of my music collection in general. I however fucking luv it so sucks be to her.

You may think I'm a madman
Or maybe just a little disturbed
What you don't understand is
I'm just culling the herd
