You've seen the screenshots. Now get your first look at Tactics Ogre in motion... sorta. A teaser video from the official site shows the game's background story, and that's about it! We're going to have to wait for actual gameplay footage in presumably the next trailer.

You can also view the teaser trailer at YouTube.

The official site also got its full opening today. There's a lot more than just the teaser trailer there. You'll also find a sweet wallpaper in the download section, a look at the background story, and character profiles shown as a relationship chart. The "new element" section of the site lists the new features that were previously disclosed. These include:
  • New dialogue
  • New side stories
  • Much more text than the original
  • The inclusion of newcomer Ravness Loxaerion as an ally starting in the prologue
  • Full 3D for the maps
  • New classes
  • New gameplay systems
  • Large number of new magic and skills
The site also confirms that there will be additional new characters outside of Ravness.

I agree with the guy who commented on youtube.

It didn't show anything or tell anything.

Another redo..like Lion war is to FF Tactics.

I'm not really in favor of those redos as they indicate to me a laziness on the part of Square..too lazy to make new games based upon Ivalice..too lazy to make new games based upon Ogre battle.

I hope I am wrong about that though.

Well, I can't say I can fully agree with this.

I'm actually generally in favour of ports of old games because it provides a chance for new gamers to be able to try old titles that they wouldn't otherwise have been able to try out. Of course, this does become a problem of laziness if SE continues to release ports over and over again (like FFI and FFII) with little effort thrown in. So when it comes to ports, they're good - as long as there are signs that some effort has gone into them, like new content or FMVs.

And the part about the general hesitation in making new games based on a franchise, well - I get that same feeling from the lack of a new Chrono game lately as well. I just suppose that possibly they don't really see it being very profitable or something - that perhaps it's not big enough of a name compared to something like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts. Still, there is that mysterious Fortress game somewhere around though that's supposed to be a follow-up to FFXII. :hmmm:

well they had farmed out Fortress to a company that went bellyup.
I've seen part of a demo of it..It looked amateurish to me.
Apparently someone else has taken over responsibility for the game. We'll see if it's any good.

I think the laziness analogy is a good one.It cuts a lot of cost /corners.
The problem is the die hard rpg games who are fans of Ogre battle, Ivalice, Chrono, mana or whatever games they follow have little hope of anything new...

Wow, I like what I have seen so far, as visuals go.

And what Fleur said is right, at least in my situation. I remember Tactics Ogre for the GBA. I saw the graphics and almost turned a blind eye to it, as I thought that they weren't impressive at all. And the game had a bit of slowdown, as well. Maybe they will improve on this port and allow the game to be fully enjoyed by the fans.

This isn't the GBA game.
That's a different game.I had the GBA game and didn't experience the problems you claim to have had.

shrugs.

If it brings in new fans..fine..but it doesn't do anything for those of us who played the original versions and are fans of those games..some of us fans for years.

I actually can't wait to play the game that influenced the Final Fantasy Tactics series. I never played the PlayStation version. But Square Enix just likes to tease with these trailers. First Dungeon Siege and now this. :gasp:

I was the one who commented on that video :wacky:
I was expecting gameplay footage. Or at least anything that would give us a sense of what the game will be like. All we learned from that trailer is what we've learned from the official announcement.

I'm still excited about this game, don't get me wrong. That's actually why I was a little hostile towards this trailer, I wanted to see more. :wacky:

@ Fleur
I have a gut feeling Fortress won't see the light of day. But if it does, I hope Yasumi Matsuno and Hitoshi Sakimoto are in on the project.

I think I've said this several times before, but War Of The Lions was an excellent port. Aside from the Dark Knight class and all the easter eggs, it was the re-written English dialogue done by localization master Alexander O Smith that really sealed the deal for me. I know about the frame-rate and whatnot, but hopefully Tactics Ogre would prove to be a better re-release. Oh sorry; "re-imagining".
