According to my research regarding the history of Zanarkand, Yu Yevon was previously the ruler of the real Zanarkand. And on top of being the ruler, he was an unequaled summoner.
And I also recall from FFX-2, that Lenne was a summoner in the real Zanarkand as well, over 1000 years ago.

Moving swiftly along...
After the war between Zanarkand and Bevelle which occured over 1000 years ago, Yu Yevon ordered the remaining survivors who dwelled in Zanarkand to become Fayth so that they could recreate Zanarkand's memory in their dreams.

Now...I was always under the impression that the last survivors who dwelled in Zanarkand after the war were the very first Fayth in history. But according to historical accounts, Yu Yevon and Lenne were both summoners in Zanarkand over 1000 years ago.
Am I missing something?
Or...if I do have my facts straight, what did Yevon and Lenne summon before the remaining inhabitants of Zanarkand became the dreaming Fayth?

I was always under the impression that the last survivors who dwelled in Zanarkand after the war were the very first Fayth in history.

If that was true then how do you suppose the likes of Yu Yevon and Lenne were able to obtain their Aeons?

Yu Yevon required sacrifices to make the Dream Zanarkand, this doesn't mean that there weren't already Fayth before the sacrifices were required.

I surmise there were already Fayth, but perhaps not enough of them? It's possible that the Fayth we encounter are the original Fayth, and the others on Fayth Scar are those brought there to simply provide Yu Yevon with a huge source of power - meaning they cannot technically summon anything.

I just reached the point in the game where Bahamut's fayth (the little boy) explains that Yu Yevon made them become Fayth in order to sustain Zanarkand's memory.

Which is what I was basing my rather lacking thesis on. Those added to the current list of Fayth were only used by Yu to -essentially- devour in order to achieve what he wanted.

Aside from stop Bevelle, that is. Which raises the thought - how was Sin made? Just by his sheer power alone? All we've been told in the game is that Yu Yevon used the Fayth solely to re-create Zanarkand... not build Sin.

I've heard a lot of humongoid theories about how Sin recreated Zanarkand. Supposedly, he rebuilt the dream Zanarkand out at Sea, and used his newly created body (Sin) to destroy all of the other technologically advanced civilizations so that they couldn't venture out and discover his creation. The thing that supports dream Zanarkand being built out in the middle of the Sea is that when Sin enters and exits dream Zanarkand, parts of the dream Zanarkand (like Tidus and Jecht) are tossed into the Sea and wash up on shore in places like Besaid.

wait.... isn't tidus supposed to know lenne because they're in the same generation? a 1000 years ago? and yu yevon created sin far before 1000 years.... i read it here:

1000 Years Ago:
  • A huge war rages between the cities of Bevelle and Zanarkand. The war is fought with high-technological weapons, or "machina". Bevelle's machina is far superior to that of Zanarkand. The war lays waste to a large area of land, later known as the Calm Lands (see below). The leader of Zanarkand, the summoner Yu Yevon, fears the worst.
  • [X-2] A songstress, Lenne, is famous throughout Zanarkand. In one of her performances, she shakes the hand of a young man named Maechen. Lenne is subsequently sent to the front lines as a summoner. She is willing to give up her life for her city, but her lover, a man named Shuyin, tries to steal Bevelle's secret machina weapon, Vegnagun. Lenne tries to stop him; in the attempt, both Shuyin and Lenne are killed by the forces of Bevelle.
  • [X-2] Vegnagun is revealed to be extremely unstable, being unable to tell friend from foe. The forces of Bevelle lock it up deep underneath the city and do not use it in the war.
  • At Yevon's behest, many of the people of Zanarkand give up their lives and turn themselves into fayths. (Fayths are souls trapped in statues, whose dreams manipulate a phenomenon called pyreflies. This phenomenon can result in making real that which is not: for example, calling aeons, beings of great power.) Yu Yevon himself merges with the life energy (pyreflies) of the rest of the people to build an invincible armor called Sin. Using Sin, he decimates the army of Bevelle; however, the creation of Sin destroys Zanarkand as well. From within Sin, Yevon uses the fayth to summon a dream Zanarkand: Zanarkand as it was before its destruction, to keep it in its pristine state forever.

I'm not sure exactly how that goes...from what I've heard...

Shuyin and Lenne really did exist in Zanarkand a thousand years ago, however, they were killed in the chaos of war, like you said. When the Fayth formed dream Zanarkand, they used their memories to keep dream Zanarkand alive. Tidus is actually the Fayth's memory of who Shuyin used to be.

Tidus doesn't really have any memories besides a drunken father, a lonely mother, and being a star player for the Zanarkand Abes. These could all very easily have been parts of Shuyin's life. As for Jecht. Who knows; maybe Jecht is actually the father figure for Shuyin as well.

I always assumed that Summoners were just like their alternative to using weapons, instead they used the fayth when people died...or perhaps summoners where soley used for sending the dead? But if that's the case then the rest of Spira would have a lot of unsent wandering around...
In any case I've just confused myself even more now

what i think is tht tidus is a cut off from shuyin i think tht tidus is relly just a dream person made to keep the dream of zanarkand alive but then he get teleported to besaid and then becomes human to stop sin from destroying the world

The Fayth are the souls of people who gave up their lives willingly to protect the people they love, then began their transformation into aeons and who knows how many people gave up their lives before zanarkand was destroyed and who knows how many temples are left undiscovered 0_o

What I don't get is why the fayth are spread all around the world. Take Bahamut's fayth for example. Why would a little boy from Bevelle be used to summon the dream Zanarkand? Was Bahamut's fayth originally from Zanarkand, but later moved to Bevelle? Why would Fayth from all over the world be used to summon dream Zanarkand. Or better yet...how did these fayth get spread across the world to begin with? =x

Well maybe the person who became bahamut was from zanarkand and later his body was taken and placed in the temple of Bevelle by High priests or something...my opinion anyway. You know that we Yevonites are very secretive(cough)Only to protect the people I ensure you.

well Bahamut's fayth was in Dream Zanarkand watching over Tidus, and I think that he was from Zanarkand. This way the fayth could be in the city but yet know that he helped create it. AND I think that bahamut's fayth was also part of the reason he went to Spira. The fayth helped bring Sin in between each other. And after dream Zanarkand was destroyed you were actually inside Sin where you fought BFA. So dream Zanarkand is actually inside Sin and the fayth just dream Sin and Yu Yevon dreams Zanarkand so that way he/she can live in zanarkand without having to worry about the war again, and the reason the Yu Yevon takes the form of the Final Aeon is to create a new sin and yet create a new Zanarkand. A calm lasts for 10 years and it was 10 years in between Jecht's and Tidus' disappearence, so every ten years when Sin is reincarnated and then destroyed Sin is allowed to go into itself and pull out someone. that way Sin will be reincarnated. and then the person that was pulled out becomes a summoner's guardian only to be the Final Aeon which Yu Yevon takes over only to make another Dream Zanarkand, then therefore the "Spiral of Death" as Seymour puts it.
