The Character of Reno

So as anyone who's played FFVII knows, Reno is a Turk for Shinra. He displays cold efficiency at some times but this is just his job. Other times he's pretty chill and just one of the guys almost.

Then comes Advent Children. Reno becomes bumbling comedic relief and if you've seen a picture of him iN AC you know he has the look of someone with mild mental retardation.

Naturally i complained about this on some forums. However I've been told and read multiple times that the character of Reno in FFVIi was very different thanks to the translation.

Now I'm used to myths and rumors but this seems like a possibility so I'm just wondering if anyone can confirm or deny if his personality is different in the original Japanese version of FFVII and in what way(s)?

Well, in the game there are no voices for the characters, including Reno, so it's hard to hear how he is expressing whatever he may be saying, whereas in Advent Children, we finally hear him talk, and the way he says stuff is definitely of a comedic nature in my opinion, so in the game he might be just as comedic as he is in Advent Children, I hope that makes sense. I think he has the same personality in both the game and AC personally.

to be honest I don't know for sure about the translation thing. But when I played through seven I got the same feeling towards Reno especially when he tries to abduct Aerith in the church etc. And when I watched AC I was pretty shocked at how different he was from the Reno built in my head. So I'm playing through seven again at the moment and trying to look at him from an AC perspective and I can't really see it bar minor comments like telling the soldiers in the church not to walk on the flowers after he walks on them etc but he still seems like a really different character. See this is why AC just really confused things =/

I feel like both Rude and Reno in AC come off as much more likeable than they do in FF7. Same with the turks in CC. The turks seem way more laid back in CC.

Maybe Reno changed after the events of the game...I mean there was a 2 year difference. Maybe hes trying to be positive in a shaken up world. He probably feels guilty...I dunno, It is strange...
