Throughout the game you will find riddles written in Al Bhed that the Al Bhed have left on 1000 year old ruins, reading the riddles is the easy part but fully understanding what they mean is another story...for example one of the riddles found near Baaj Temple reads: "In the land where bolts of light illuminate the blackest night With Macalania behind the fourth pillar you sight look not on the left but on the right."

Does this mean that there is a shortcut to Macalania from the Thunder Plains behind a pillar? and by pillar does it mean a Lightning Rod?

Another such riddle found on a ruin near Besaid Falls reads: "Kilika and Bikanel join as one."

What the hell does that mean? another shortcut? someone please enlighten me...

The first riddle really just tells you where a treasure is buried in the water, though im sure you found it at first anyway....
the 2nd just seems to tell us that the 2 places are connected from what i can tell.

i wondered this myself, kilika and bikanel join as one maybe at some point the islands were one but sin destroyed the land breaking it in two thats the only reason i can think of. i dont have any theories on the macalania riddle.
Its a good question

The message about Kilika and Bikanel is a hint: In Kilika Woods there's another inscription that's just a jumble of letters: tepswrs VCOIU. In Bikanel, there's another: hasodi ITROS

If you combine the jumbles "as one", you get "The password is VICTORIOUS," which is a password for a new Airship destination.

Ta da!

Some of them do give you the correct passwords, which you are required to input in order to obtain various items. The first riddle you mentioned talks about the secret chests and items on the Thunder Plains. The second one there talks about Dark Ifrit. As I believe you're playing the European version, should you go back to Bikanel, you will eventually encounter Dark Ifrit - the Aeon that you obtained when you visited Kilika.

That's actually cool. I've always wondered but I had no idea. Also, I thought this thread's title was "The Al Bhed's Nipples"... which struck me as odd. I tried to look into it more online but I couldn't turn up anything.
You googled "al bhed's nipples"??
I can't really remember now, but I figured out what some of them meant. Some were rather confusing though, to say the least.

Actually the point about the Dark Ifrit and Bikanel is something I've never thought of and now am quite sure that's what it means.

I always thought the one about the Thunder Plains was a hint to the Kain's Lance.
