‘Adventures of Tintin’ Teaser Trailer, Poster

Published by Jeff Leins on May 17, 2011

Paramount Pictures has released a teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin. His first movie behind the camera since 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Disappointment, Tintin is a motion capture adaptation of Herge’s beloved comic series about a globetrotting reporter (voiced by Jamie Bell) and his faithful terrier.

It seems they’ve dropped the “Secret of the Unicorn” subtitle, which is strange considering this was intended as a setup for a trilogy with the second being directed by Peter Jackson.

Nevertheless, the trailer looks decent enough that you wish this had been accomplished using live actors and practical effects, not the mo-cap techniques that render the characters as glass-eyed zombies of the Uncanny Valley.

Particularly the final shot of Tintin, which really drives home how far animation has come at the same time as its uncomfortable distance from reality. Take a look and tell me what you think:

I saw a poster for this last night. I was a big fan of the cartoons and comics when I was a kid so I'm quite keen to see it. I'm glad that Spielberg is directing it; a man who knows how to make a good movie.

From the trailers, it certainly looks impressive visually. I like how the colours don't seem to be as vivid as a pixar movie but the CGI still has a sort of cartoony feel.

Also, here is another trailer:

My first impression was that Tintin's design seemed a little weird. But I guess that's to be expected considering that his original design had two dots for eyes. I'm not so sure about his voice though. :hmmm:

Also the last scene reminds me a lot of Uncharted; which is a good thing. The camera angle seems very 'video game' like.

I'm not a huge Tintin fan (I was more of an Asterix fan :P) but I did enjoy some of the comics. I'm kind of excited to see this, I will most likely go and watch it at the cinemas.

I love how the graphics look, the scenery is really realistic BUT I am really disappointed at how they made Tintin look. He is disgusting :S they could have done something better with him. The other characters look ok just not him... I'll still see it though.

Saw it last night and I thought it was brilliant. There were a few minor plot holes and lame moments but nothing which detracted from the overall quality of the movie.

It wasn't too dumbed down for the kiddies either even though I'm assuming that it is primarily aimed at children. Alcohol was a major theme with Haddock. There was plenty of gunfire and stuff too.

I really liked the way the movie was paced. It seemed like it was constantly progressing which kept me excited throughout the movie. Spielberg didn't bother with the pointless shit that other movies often include. For example;
when Haddock and Snowy get tied up and thrown into the water, the movie doesn't bother showing Tintin rescue them because it would be a waste of time to do so. The process of rescuing them would have been simple, so there would be little point making a big deal out of it.

At the same time this allowed the movie to avoid that cliche scene commonly found in movies where one of the main characters has just saved the other one's life and the characters feel the need to express how much they truly care about each other etc etc..

By leaving out such pointless shit, the movie was able to keep me on the edge of my seat.

When I saw the trailers I was unsure about Tintin's design and voice but they didn't bother me at all during the actual movie.

All in all I loved this movie. I am curious as to where the next film will go though. Obviously basing the film on Red Rackham's treasue would be the next logical step. But I'm not sure if that would be enough to fill a whole movie so I'm guessing they will mash it up with another story.

I noticed that at the beginning there were newspaper articles referencing the Cigars of the Pharaoh, the Broken Ear and Ottokar's sceptre. So I'm assumung that they can be ruled out. Personally I think doing the Seven Crystal balls/Prisoners of the Sun would be dope. But that probably wouldn't be in the next film as they would need some time to introduce and establish Professor Calculus as a character.

...:hmmm:

I saw it a few weeks ago and wanted to write about it here, but I forgot. So anyway, it's a good movie. Better than what I expected. The three stories are integrated together nicely. I used to like watching the animated Tintin shows.

I agree with most of what SasShman said. The pacing is great. The humor fits really well. The characters are very true to the original (except Sacharin). Oh and I watched in IMAX 3D, so the visuals and effects were great!

As a matter of fact, they seem to be planning for the seven crystal balls + Prisoners of the sun for the sequel! It's one of my favourite tintin stories too.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Tintin_(film):
Depending on the film's success, two more Tintin movies could be produced. The first of these was originally planned to be based on The Seven Crystal Balls and Prisoners of the Sun,[93] however screenwriter Anthony Horowitz has since called this into question, suggesting these films would be the second sequel and another story would become the first sequel.[94] Peter Jackson also confirmed he will direct it once he has finished The Hobbit.[93] In December 2011, Spielberg confirmed a sequel to his 3D movie will be made and said the book to adapt had been chosen.[95] He explained the Thompson detectives will "have a much bigger role". This movie will this time be produced by Spielberg and directed by Jackson.[95] Kathleen Kennedy said the script might be done by February or March 2012 with the movie being released either on Christmas 2014 or during the summer 2015.[96]

It will most likely be for the second sequel though.
