I think that Sword Art Online was the best anime released in 2012. The animation is so fluid and fast paced that it makes the sword fights so tense. I really fell in love with this one. A brain conected MMORPG where a mad creator seals everyone inside so that everyone has only one life and if they lose it they die. The story and the characters are also superb. If you enjoy fighting/romance anime with high quality animation then I highly advise you to take a look at this anime. Oh and if you have already watched it what did you think about it ^^?

How bout that, just happened to start this show yesterday, am finishing it up now.

I thought the first half was really good, but then it got really weird and made a lot of changes which kind of killed the tension. It would have been amazing- to me anyway- if they'd just kept the first half as the whole story and fleshed it out a bit more. But it's still very enjoyable; it's got me looking for more fun adventure fantasy type stuff.

I also didn't like how all the women fell in love with the protag regardless of screen time, relevance, or in some cases familial relation.... but hey, sall good.

The best part was when he caught the really big fish. Loved that.

edit: I will say, though, ending was perfect. Really enjoyed how they pulled the characters together.

The first three episodes are quite interesting, then it becomes a terribly dull and tedious beast. Awful characters and relationship development, and they often ignore the rules of the game in favour of the plot.

Read/watched it. It's okay. Not great, but not too shabby at all. I like Kirito and Asuna's love story though and how Kirito becomes an awesome player. Even so, the story kinda reminds me of the .hack series a lot. That's the reason why it didn't "set me on fire".

The problem with the anime is that they went through all of the boring side stories before getting to the actual plot of the LN and then the second half was really lacking. The ALO arc was pretty boring until the end. I much preferred Accel World in terms of the anime, but SAO is pretty great overall.

Hardly what I call the best, there are a lot better than it:
- From The New World (Shin Sekai Yori)
- Another
- Btooom!
- Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
- Sukitte li na yo
- Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
- Space Brothers (Uchuu Kyoudai)

Also, SAO just reminds me of any .hack franchise which I favor over SAO any day; so, yea, I believe it was mediocre.

Yeah, I didn't like Sword Art Online. It had potential, and an interesting plot to start off but god..

I made it about 8 episodes in before I just couldn't do it anymore. Why do they make something like this basically episodic, it's so boring. Some shows can pull of episodic quite well, but an anime about people trapped in an mmorpg trying to survive should have alot more interesting intrigues and characters. Also the fact that everyone got their "in real life" looks very much bothered me. Just made the whole thing alot more stupid. I might pick it up at some point, don't like leaving things half finished, but I'm not sure. For me .hack//sign was alot more interesting and less boring, and that anime was made up of about 85% talking.

Watch it until episode 11 or 12, when you think things come to an "end". Then, not even kidding, skip straight to the last half of the last episode, and (ignoring the last few minutes) it will be a great ending.
