Suicidal Kuja?

A funny thing happened when I played FFIX last night. I was facing Trance Kuja and I can't make this up. He killed himself using flare. Has anyone else seen Kuja use flare on himself at any point in the fight? I'm not talking because of any of your characters using reflect, but legitimately casting flare on himself. I wonder if it was because I only had Freya left and had used her Jump attack. Thoughts?
 
I can honestly say I have never seen this done... ever... I just now after reading this did a youtube video search to see if I could find anything on this, and nothing, even with reflect Flare wouldn't attack him. Maybe Jump is the key to it :hmm: I would figure it would just not use it, but maybe the code in FFIX makes it so it has to be used if anyone is still alive?
 
i dunno. i just cant make that up. his last two moves were flare on himself. the first was while freya was in air and the second was right after she speared him.
 
Could be a technical oversight. Something with the AI of the enemy, I would guess.

But hey, maybe he knew his end was coming anyway. :giggle:
 
I can only assume it glitched because there was no one to actually hit? His second flare attack may have been commanded just before Freya landed, so was still targetted at himself? I know when I select jump and try to cure the whole party she doesnt get cured even though she's not actually jumped yet, it just skips her. Thoguh annoyingly attacks will still land on her if shes not in the air yet. So yeah, Im just gunna assume its a jump related glitch!
 
Yea it was insane. If he would've used flare on freya after she landed instead of himself, i would've lost.
