The Final Lullaby

Prologue...

"I always thought there would be a way out. You know, a place to...vent? Somewhere you can go to tell something everything, someone who will listen and not just nod there heads and demand money from you for it. I needed to actually speak to someone, a friend. There were so many things I just wanted to get off my chest, and the only I could do that was to end it all. I had decided that I would never talk again, never love again. I'd never dream, or wish. I'd finally be alone, so I took it upon me to take the pills. I took more than prescribed. It felt good for the first ten minutes, then the world starting to spin around. My eyes were fluttering constantly, it felt as if I was completely and utterly drunk. After five more minutes, I started to feel sick and a painful grip in my stomach, it felt as if I was being stabbed.

It finally came to and end. I got my final wish, I made sure I'd set everything up ready. I wanted to make it perfect, I wanted everyone to known I had gone. I wanted to make an impact. I was bullied at school, every day I'd be called names. General stuff intending that I'm insane, I have no life and I'm ugly. I couldn't handle any of it and although I can forgive those who made me feel pain, I cannot forgive the five who watched me be bullied. The five people who stood and over heard the name calling, the abuse. The five people who knew something was going on, and the only five the could do something. They did nothing. I've done some planning and left them some surprises behind. They'll find them, and they won't like them. I'll make them pay. They are the reason I ended it. The reason is because...

They are the five people who killed me."

CHAPTER ONE: Selfishness

"...do you love me?" Grace asked, batting her eye lids at Hayden.
"Uh, yeah...of course I do." Hayden replied, quite absent.
"Good. I was beginning to think otherwise." Grace answered, biting her pen lid.

The pair of them sat beside each other, Grace rested on a creaking wooden stool with her legs firmly crossed and Hayden sat with his back slumped and generally comfortable. The elegant girl looked at Hayden's work, he'd been writing down generic music knowledge for the past thirty minutes, and Grace was getting rather impatient wanting him to converse with her. The whole class was silent, and they were all putting pen to paper, it seemed that Grace was the only person who couldn't think of what to write.

"What are we doing after college?" Grace asked, pen in mouth.
"Uh, don't know." Hayden answered, not taking his eye of his book.
"We could go to my place." Grace replied, batting her eye lids once again.
"No thanks, I've got coursework to do." Hayden said.

Grace huffed and began to jot random notes down in her book. She hated college, all she wanted to do when she signed up to do music, was to just sing. Grab a microphone and sing. But it seemed that it was generally all coursework and not much time in the recording studio. Grace began to draw pictures of her future album, and its artwork. She smiled cheerfully when she wrote underneath it: "Number One Album", she bit her lip and returned to gazing at Hayden, who was still focused on his work, she rolled her eyes and rested her head on her palm. Sighing to get attention, she was ignored.

"You're not a very good boyfriend, are you?" Grace asked.
"I am, I'm just trying to concentrate..." Hayden said.
"You're just wasting your time." Grace replied.
"No. I'm not. I'm trying to do this." Hayden looked rather annoyed.
"I'm off, you coming?" Grace said, jumping to her feet.
"Nope. See you." Hayden smiled, Grace grabbed her bag and stormed out.

Grace began to hum to herself her favourite song and casually strolled along the corridor, around her were school lockers and as she approached her own, she received a text message, as it began to vibrate in her pocket, she put her bag on the ground. She reached into her jean pocket and removed her mobile. It was a text from her best friend, Seong. He said:

"No treating u rite is he? We'll go out tonight babes x"

Grace began to slowly smile and opened her locker, with phone in hand she began to press buttons to make her reply. As she looked up, in the corner of her locker was a notebook, it didn't belong to Grace. She put her mobile in the locker and grabbed the notebook. It didn't have a lot of pages, in fact it only had one. She opened it and on the first page it said:

"It's going to be a cold lonely night. Stick close to someone."

Grace raised one eyebrow to the note and put the book in the nearest bin, she shut up and locked her locker and put her bag on her shoulder. She hasn't realised she'd left her phone in her locker, before she strolled out of the building. She walked across the front of the college and towards the gates. When to her left side she saw Mai and Kim.

"Hey!" Grace shouted, waving.
"...oh god." Kim whispered to Mai.
"Be nice..." Mai whispered back.
"How're you?" Grace asked, standing before the two.
"Better wit--" Kim began.
"We're good. You?" Mai butted in, kicking Kim sneakily.
"Not bad, just a bit pissed off at Hayden." Grace admitted.
"Oh, why?" Mai asked.
"He's been blanking me for some stupid exam." Grace answered, sighing.
"That monster." Kim joked.
"I know! Right?" Grace replied.
"See you around, G." Mai said walking away with Kim.
"Bye." Grace replied watching the couple walk away hand in hand.

CHAPTER TWO: Vanity

"Mum. No. I'm not doing anything illegal." Seong said into his phone.
"Good. Be home before midnight, okay?" His mum said.
"Yes. Mum." Seong replied, rubbing his head.
"Okay. Love you. Bye." She replied, hanging up.

Seong laughed and threw his phone on his bed, he fell back onto it and smiled. He loved how she followed him everywhere, how she wanted him to know she loved him, even though he knew she still wasn't keen on his sexuality. Seong rolled over and picked up his phone, and began to ring Grace. He waited a while as it rang, before reaching her voice mail. Seong sighed and got to his feet, walking over to his computer and loading up his instant messaging service. It seemed that Grace was online, he began to chat to her.

"Your phone off?" He asked.
"No! I lost it!" She replied.
"You tit." He typed back.
"I think I left it at school lol." She answered.
"Dozy mare. What we doing tonight?" He asked.
"...mine at seven?" She asked.
"Sure babe, see ya x" He replied, signing off.

Seong took off his red t-shirt and looked at himself in the mirror, he liked his look. He loved himself too much, and he knew. He turned to the wardrobe and took out a white t-shirt and stylish hoodie. He put them on and opened his door, his cat pushing past him and jumping on his bed. He smiled and shook his head leaving the room, and the door open. As he jogged down the he noticed he'd left his phone. He went back into his room and picked up his phone, he turned to face the mirror which had something written on it saying:

"Your vanity remains whilst you live."

"What the...?" Seong exclaimed.

He rushed to the mirror, he hadn't wrote it. The cat couldn't write, so who did. He checked his room, all around. He made sure no one had sneaked in, and nobody had. The window was still bolted shut, and locked. He quickly left the room and ran down stairs and out the door. With phone in hand, he noticed Hayden walking the street. He always fancied Hayden, even though he knew he was Grace's, he always had an eye for him.

"Hayden!" He shouted.
"S'up?" Hayden replied jogging over.
"Not much, just going to see Grace." He replied, looking in his eyes.
"Oh, I shunned her a bit today." Hayden said, laughing.
"Oh. Well, I'll tell her you love her and stuffs." He said, smiling.
"Thanks. Anyway, gotta go. Later." He said.
"Bye." Seong replied, watching him leave.

CHAPTER THREE: Disbelief

Mai sat in the bathroom of her house, on the toilet seat, she held a sharp razor and began to slowly cut in her arm. She did this quite a lot, and it was generally for satisfaction. Mai enjoyed the pain fixating in her arm, after making a slice, she washed the razor off and put it away. She covered up her arm and left the bathroom. Mai walked across the hall and noticed her computer was infested with messages from Kim. He had said:

"Sexy time!"
"Rather lonely..."
"You're not there, are you?"
"Just myself for tonight."
"Ily x"

Mai always was happy around Kim, he made her laugh. She knew he was a great person, whether his personality was shocking to others. They were both open about their sexualities to one another, and were fine on open relationships, so long as they both knew. Mai closed all the windows and shut down her computer. She moved over to her mirror and began to apply some make-up. Tonight she was going out. She was going out alone, but she knew she'd have fun. After adding her make-up, she left the room. She walked back into the bathroom, where everything had been knocked on the floor, she was wondering what had gone on and tidied everything away. She came to her feet and turned her back to face her bedroom. She walked back into and sat on her bed. She looked around, she was impatient and stressed so returned to the bathroom and took out her razor, she rolled up her sleeve and with razor in hand took it to her skin. She noticed, in the corner of her eye. Something written in blood on the wall.

"Stop it. You're wasting it. You need it."

"Fuck!?" She shouted, dropping the razor.

She came to her feet and looked at the message, who had done it? It was no there last time, she knew it wasn't. Feeling scared, Mai left the bathroom and went downstairs, she was nervous and scared. She looked around, and decided to ring Kim.

"Kim! I'm so scared." She said, shaking.
"Why? What's up?" He asked.
"There is blood on my wall." She answered.
"The fuck? Stay there, I'm coming over." He said.
"Okay, love you..." She replied. Hanging up.

CHAPTER FOUR: Honour

Kim rushed down the street, he was still trying to get his coat on before he reached Mai's house, the doors was unlocked, so he let himself in. Mai was sat on the sofa, her head in her hands, he was soon by her side holding her. She sobbed on his shoulder, whilst he rocked back and forth to comfort her. His hand on her hand holding her to him. She was frightened, and now he was too. She rose her hand and thanked Kim.

"I don't know what it is..." Mai said.
"What?" Kim asked.
"The blood. I don't understand it." Mai replied.
"Oh, never mind it, forget it." Kim said.
"I can't." Mai answered.
"I'll sort it." Kim said, coming to his feet.

Mai let him get up, he began to walk up stairs. Kim was worried for Mai, he began to wonder whether she was going insane or not. As he entered the bathroom, he noticed that nothing was written anywhere. He sighed, and heard Mai come up the stairs, with mascara down her face, she hugged Kim. She noticed nothing was there on the wall. She was shocked.

"You imagined it." Kim said.
"No. It was there." Mai replied, pointing to a certain spot.
"Babe, that is crystal clean. Nothing has even touched it." He said.
"But..." Mai began.
"Get some sleep. You're not thinking straight." Kim said, lifting up Mai.

He carried her into her bedroom and put her in her bed. He covered her with her duvet and kissed her. She thanked him, and rolled over to fall asleep. Kim sat on the bed, and took out his phone. He realised he had a message, from an unknown number. It said:

"You're not doing your job. Do it right."

Kim attempted to reply to the message, but it didn't allow him too. After he read it, he searched for it in his inbox, but it had gone. He raised one eyebrow and put his phone away. He stood and looked down at a sleeping Mai. He smiled and laid beside her, drifting off to sleep. Thoughts running through his head, he was worried about Mai. Something was playing on her mind, and she had to be feeling sick or something, it was the only explanation Kim could think of. Time passed, and they both awoke. They looked at each other.

"I heard your phone go off earlier, did you get the text?" Mai asked.
"Nope. I didn't get any." Kim replied, looking worried.

CHAPTER FIVE: Lies

"Wow. Third bottle in...and we haven't started." Grace said giggling.
"Oh, you make me laugh." Seong replied, drinking his wine.
"I need to find my bloody phone." Grace said, hiccuping.
"Yes. Yes you do." Seong said, slurring.

Grace reached across the room with a bottle of wine to give to Seong, he reached out to grab it, and Grace unexpectedly threw it to him. Seong gasped as it hit the floor, and red wine stained out among the white carpet. They burst into laughter as Grace crawled to it and began to try and drink it. Seong crawled on the floor to help too. They both began to laugh.

"...my poor carpet." Grace said, relaxing on the floor.
"Yeah..." Seong sighed.
"Did you speak to Hayden today...?" Grace asked.
"Uh, yes." Seong replied.
"Did he mention me?" Grace asked.
"No." Seong answered, quickly.
"You know. That boy, it is as if he fancies someone else." Grace slurred.
"You think?" Seong asked, hoping.
"He blanked me today. I think he's got another girl." Grace said.
"I hope not." Seong said.

Grace rolled her eyes and fell back on the floor. She was joined by her best friend, Seong. He looked at her as he came to his feet and held out his hand, she grabbed it and he pulled her up. Seong smiled as she beamed into his face. He walked strangely out of the room followed by a drained Grace. She joined him in the kitchen as he began to drink water.

"Do you think I should dump Hayden?" Grace asked.
"If you think it is right." Seong replied, smiling to himself.
"I think he is missing out, to be honest." Grace said.
"Yeah." Seong said, he was cheerful.
"Right, tomorrow, I'll tell him it is over." Grace revealed.
"Good--I mean, uh..." Seong replied.
"Don't. I know it is good." Grace said. Seong was relieved.
"Do what you believe, babe." Seong said.
"I will. Anyway, you can come kip with me. I'm off to bed." Grace said.

Grace walked off and up the stairs, she was truly going to leave Hayden. Seong loved the situation, he know knew that Hayden would be single. Seong danced to himself in the kitchen and cheered silently. He quickly ran upstairs, happy then ever and was ready to fall asleep.

"Night." Grace said.
"Night." Seong replied.
