So story mode summaries are online... if anyone wants to take a peak.

http://hissi.org/read.php/ff/20081204/Y2VBUHhiZk8w.html

They are all in Japanese, but a member at thelifestream.net forums tried translating them. If you want me to provide the link, I will, but I'll aid the resistance of temptation for now.

Please note: these don't really give anything away, per se. They're just summaries of what each storyline is going to be about.

I was able to find translations of it...

WARNING: Spoilers!

Warrior: Under the guidance of Cosmos, Warrior comes to learn of the state of the world caught in the whirl of chaos. He sets out alone to find the one thing that can save the world - The Crystals. But along the way, the troops of Chaos attempt to knock him from the noble path. If the "truth" they preach is correct, then how can the Warrior continue to believe in the "Light?"

Firion: He begins his journey in the company of Cecil, Cloud, and Tidus. At first, he believes that "To find the Crystals will solve everything," but as he walks many paths, and meets new friends, his views gradually begin to change. He cannot believe in any dream but his own - and he sees the lessons of "The Wild Rose" as the key to the truth.

Onion: The Onion Knight is a young man who is wise beyond his few years. He is confident in the merits he has gained along the way, but hides the fact that he still harbors some of the fears of youth, and holds the anxiety behind his actions close to his chest. As they search for the Crystals, Onion comes to draw strength from his traveling companion, Terra. However, just as he is truly taking pride in himself, it might not be enough for them...

Cecil: While he is traveling together with Firion and Tidus, Cecil has his misgivings about if obtaining the Crystals is truly the answer. Then right before him, appears his brother Golbez, aligned with the troops of Chaos. Sometimes, his words appear to be advice for his younger brother, but is it only a trap to confuse Cecil? ...Thus Cecil finds himself torn between his mission as one serving Cosmos and the emotions he carries for his brother.

Bartz: Wishing to transform this crisis into a bit of fun, he and his fellow warrior Zidane propose to have a contest to see who will find the Crystals first. However, he is caught in their enemies' trap, and is flown off to the home base of the troops of Chaos. But he does not lose heart, and in escaping Bartz is triumphant in finding the Crystals. But on the path ahead, a greater trap may be waiting him.

Terra: Possessing a gentle, calm heart, Terra also wields a great magical power in contrast to this kind nature, a power she cannot properly control. As she begins her journey to locate the Crystals, her cheerful companion Onion acts as a foil to her, but along the way a mysterious memory of hers suddenly vanishes. Soon, she will have to confront the truth hidden within this missing time to win it back...

Cloud: While he finds Firion, Cecil, and Tidus to be reliable enough as comrades, Cloud finds himself becoming depressed. Why is he fighting? How long will he continue fighting? But he finds himself still struggling to find and understand those answers. Then, Cloud finds a clue amid a discussion with his comrades. However, a "shadow" form his past seeks to block his progress.

Squall: Always the highest of achievers, he finds companions to be unnecessary. With this in mind, Squall separates himself from the other warriors of Cosmos, and plans to find the Crystals on his own. Those traveling with Bartz find him, and express their concern over Squall, and he promises to meet up with them again. Even though this concern over his well-being leaves Squall feeling awkward. However, his heart is unconsciously softening....

Zidane: "A competition to see who will find the Crystals first..." That is what Zidane offered his traveling companion Bartz. However, Bartz is caught in a trap laid out for Zidane, and falls into the hands of the troops of Chaos. Considering this to be his fault, Zidane is driven to right it by his feelings of worry. Zidane searches far and wide to help him, but is he only driven to protect his friend due to this sense of dread?

Tidus: Though he is seeking the Crystals, Tidus sets his sights on another target. The "detested old man" who treated him like brat with that swagger - he wants to take on Jecht. With his eyes set so firmly upon this goal, his traveling companions worry where this path is leading him with each and every step forward. But, Tidus' true feelings about his father, almost unnoticed by himself, are still sleeping the depths of his heart.

So, it seems that Cecil, Firion, Cloud and Tidus have formed a little clique. :P Same goes for Zidane and Bartz, and Terra and the onion knight.

And lol @ Squall wanting to be alone. Go figure...

Oh, and credit goes to ff chaotic cosmos, which can be found here.

Though it's a given these little posses are probably going to break up/merge along the way - since in scans we already see in scans and trailers various characters interacting outside their "group."

Also note - no summary for Shantotto. Secret character perhaps? :O

Cloud:

That certainly does not help the Cloud emo argument... stupid SE. Although Bartz does reinforce just how awesome he is. Makes me like the character more. w00t

Bartz storyline looks the most dramatic so far, and it's probably the one I'm looking most forward to based on this summary. I should get around to finishing FF5... >_<

Cloud's just depressed because he's the only FF character who hasn't had a proper break. All work and no play makes Cloud a dull boy.

Oh, they'll definitely merge at some point in the game. They'll probably just be in their little groups until they wind up meeting up with someone else. I think that may be the reason some characters are fighting against their own side; they may see them as enemies when they first meet them. "ZOMG TEDDY BEAR AND MONKEY BOY! THEY MUST BE EVIL! DIE SCUM!"

Maybe she's unlockable somehow...but if that were the case, why would they already announce her as being part of the cast? Ah well...

Villains probably won't have Story Mode from what it looks so far. Heh they can be played on Free mode and VS only?

Also Shantotto might be only a secret character with no story at all, but she can have cutscenes... Hmm hard to say.

Still, Bartz looks like the leading man. I'm intererested to see how Cloud fights.
I can't wait to play with his AC Costume. ;D

From what i hear there won't be a storymode for the villain, but you see how their story unfolds when you play through the hero storymode.

It does seem a little contradictory for square to release a "secret" character to the confirmed roster. Then again, I'm pretty sure that all the villains are also unlockable aswell. Bartz storymode is definitly the most exciting looking right now :D

or an emo one, apparently. What's even worse is they give Squall the position of cool loner... love how they can get those two backwards even though they made the fucking games. Apparently writing goth poetry and wearing hot topic apparel is a surefire way to instill a sense of self-confidence in others... while Cloud's leadership ability makes him listen to Rise Against all day and paint his nails. :(

Well, Squall was the cool loner in FF8, It makes sense because while Squall completely shut himself out, Cloud was more awkwardly attached to the people around him. And I guess the whole "why am I fighting" thing ties into the last scene befroe heading to Northern Crater in FF7. Meh, I dunno.
Cloud and Squall both will probably grow more attachedto their team as the game goes on, albeit in slightly different ways, like they did in FF8/FF7.

Not to mention, I'd be pretty depressed too if some creepy guy kept showing up trying to rape me up the butt with a long sword. Good thing Sephiroth missed, twice, and got him in the chest instead :monster:

...Though I'd still prefer crazy!Cloud to depressed!Cloud. Crazy!Cloud is more true to FF7 while the depressedness is more like Advent Children.

Ugh, not depressed Cloud again. Just once I'd like to see the determined "let's mosey" Cloud from later in FF VII make an appearance, that would be amazing.

Depressed Cloud has been milked to death ever since the release of AC. Personally I'd like to see crazy identity crisis Cloud, he hasn't made an appearance since his secret little submission in FFTactic.

"Who am I? Am I Cloud? What's with these voices always talking to me? Stop it, crazy white flashes! I must be crazy! I AM JUST A PUPPET MUST PUNCH AERIS IN THE FACE ASDFGHJKL; SEPHIROTH HERE THE BLACK MATERIA WILL YOU LOVE ME NOW. *goes into a coma* Duuhrrrrr."

...Come on, we all know this is the Cloud we all fell for :P
It may be interesting if, at one point of the story that Cloud, under Sephiroth's manipulation betrays his fellow heroes ala FF7 black materia style.

Determined Cloud I'd like to see aswell, like at the end of FF7/end of AC. Though it might be more appropriate to show him like this when he's sorted out all his crazy personal stuff.

I really wasn't a fan of AC taking the depressed Cloud route, but I could handle it because a good reason was given for it. In Dissidia he has no excuse to pull a My Chemical Romance. His geostigma is gone, he knows Aerith forgave him and Zack doesn't hold his death against him, and by now he should realize that Sephiroth is too smug to actually go all out on Cloud and beat him. Determined Cloud is cooler anyways, despite the briefness of his appearances he's cool in DoC, so they should recreate that here.

Nice find!

Hahaha XD

I'm surprised Bartz is playing quite a role in Dissida. Final Fantasy V wasn't a very outstanding to most FF fans. I'm glad though, kudos to Bartz!

Oh lord, emo Cloud again? We've got a shirt less Sephiroth in the screen shots that I've seen, and now SE admitted that Cloud is depressed. Might as well just pull their pants down and have a gay orgy.

I wish they didn't call Onion.... Onion... Give him a real name! :wacky:

Oh my gawd seriously, when are they going to stop making Cloud such an emo, whiny, depressed character? I don't get it. I mean, they sit there and say "Oh it's part of his character." I don't remember Cloud EVER being whiny and emo in FFVII. Sure he was heartbroken over Aerith's death, but he was nothing like he was in Advent Children in FFVII. I thought Cloud was finally better. Why do they keep doing this shit? -__-

And lol@Squall being a loner. That's typical of him! <3 Squall!

Quoted xDDDD

LOL :D. I'll second that. That was probably one of my favourite scenes from FF7... Seeing Cloud in that wheelchair, eyes wide open, fitting about and looking really, really crazy. Tifa rolling him away from the exploding village, only to fall into the lifestream :D. Great times. This IS my favourite Cloud.

Crazy-Cloud all the way. Seriously, this is the Cloud I prefer. He was struggling with himself etc, but he wasn't gay about it.

Depressed-Cloud? Oh dear.. bad call. I hope it is a mistranslation of "a tad unhappy" or something. If they're going for the depressed side of Cloud (which i agree, I don't remember being in FF7 either, only in AC onwards) then I'm even less looking forward to seeing him in the game. I think I'll end up prefering to play the rest of the cast first.

Wow you guys I really hate spoilers but will cosmos and chaos fight at the end? Anyways I did not even check the spoilers so am good. Well I am getting the game on the 18th so ill be ok and find out for myself. So Cosmos has 11 people and chaos has 10.

I really hope that we don't get the cliche "fight of the ultimate good and bad" at the end of Dissidia. I want this to be different from your typical story, with there being some truths to the villains claims about Cosmos not being as benevolent as she seems.

I'd also like it if any or all of the villains took down Chaos at the end of the game. All of them have goals that do not pan out well with a god of discord ordering them around, so they'd all have motivation to take him out for their own purposes.

Do you live in Japan? :O If not, then you probably won't be getting the game until Spring, because that's when it comes out in the states I believe.

And we don't know for sure if Cosmos has eleven on her side, I'm sure we'll get to see the main villain of XI, though, because then teddy bear girl won't have anyone to fight.

I heard Squall and the Warrior of Light have a fight. Of course that was on the FF Wiki, which ANYONE can edit, so it might not be accurate but I am WAY looking forward to that. I'm also hoping for a Squall vs Sephiroth bout. I REALLY hope they don't just do Cloud/Sephiroth fights again and again. I mean it's cool if they do it once but don't make them huge rivals - this is about 2 opposing GROUPS and I think the heroes should have to fight with OTHER people's villains, not just their own. Cloud vs Squall would be the ultimate Hero vs Hero fight of course and Garland vs Sephiroth would be the best villian fight. Sorry for putting so much opinions in here, but I put a spoiler in it too so I think I'm okay!

And, please don't kill me, but I liked serious Cloud. I don't like the term emo cloud mainly because emo has THREE definitions - 2 different types of music and cutting your wrist - which we have no proof Cloud even plays an instrument and no proof he cuts himself. I think Cloud from AC was cool though. Don't flame at me please!
