"* 'South Park' showed Prophet Mohammad in bear suit
* ****** group references slain filmmaker in 'warning'
* New 'South Park' beeps out Mohammad's name (Recasts with latest episode of show)

By Alex Dobuzinskis

LOS ANGELES, April 21 (Reuters) - Satirical animated TV show "South Park" beeped out the words Prophet ****** and plastered its Wednesday episode with the word "CENSORED" after being issued a grim warning by a U.S. ****** group.

The irreverent comedy show on Comedy Central also substituted a controversial image seen last week of the ****** in a bear outfit with one of Santa Claus in the same costume.

It was not immediately clear if the move was a bid to tread carefully following the warning against the "South Park" creators, or if they were poking fun at the fuss.

The little-known group Revolution ******.com posted a message on its website earlier this week warning creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker "that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show."

The website posted a graphic photo of Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was killed in 2004 by an ****** militant over a movie he had made that accused ****** of condoning violence against women. It also posted a link to a news article with details of a mansion in Colorado that Parker and Stone apparently own.

Most ****** consider any depiction of the founder of ****** as offensive.

The website warning followed the first in a two-part episode of "South Park" a week ago in which Prophet Mohammad was depicted in a bear outfit.

"South Park" has a history of biting satire against politicians, celebrities and the media. The two Colorado filmmakers are known to often work on "South Park" until just before they air, enabling them to react to current events.

In Wednesday's new episode, Jesus Christ was depicted watching pornography and Buddha was portrayed snorting cocaine.

The head of Revolution ******, Younus Abdullah ******, 30, defended the Web posting by his group.

"How is that a threat?," he told Reuters earlier on Wednesday. "Showing a case study right there of what happened to another individual who conducted himself in a very similar manner? It's just evidence."

According to U.S. law enforcement officials, the federal government rarely prosecutes threat cases. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives broad protections to free speech, and what constitutes a threat is often subject to interpretation.

****** described his group as an alternative media outlet with about 20 active posters to the website. He said the group "didn't tell anyone to go to their houses and conduct violence" against Parker or Stone.

Comedy Central, a unit of Viacom Inc (VIAb.N), has declined to comment on the controversy. (Additional reporting by Louis Charbonneau; editing by Jill Serjeant and Mohammad Zargham)

What are your thoughts on this? America is a free Country where we can say what we want. South Park has made fun of all religions and people in the world.

Theres always one as they say. My friend is Muslim and says its not fair how they are judged as "the bad apples" as she says. The guy did go way too far with this though. Yes complain, but threats arent going to work for God sake. Its stupid how OTT he had to go with this. Some muslims would laugh off the episode and ignore it.

What the host says is true though, its freedom of speech. If you dont want to watch it cause it insults you, then dont watch it for God sake. Poor Matt and Trey. And that poor man whom was killed because of his film. Some people need to stop, I mean this is getting way out of hand now. Why do we have to treat them with kidgloves when other religions get mocked all the time??

Yes, exactly. It sucks when all *usl*ms are judged badly because of a few idiots like him.

Like you said, freedom of speech. They need to know that this is our country we can say what we like here.

But that man saying he sees nothing wrong with the 911 attacks and how he "dislikes the United States" should be taken out of America.

That was way outta hand. He has been given the oppertunity to live in a country that allows freedom of speech and he has abused this. Does he want riots and hate crimes getting more out of control now, cause he may get that. What a jackarse.

Man, this is ridiculous. We have freedom of speech here, and some guys who come from a different country have the balls to tell other people what we should do with it. There's something seriously wrong with that. This must also have to do with the whole being offended excuse. I think it goes something like this: you can get away with censoring anything and everything you want; just say it's offensive to your religion, and people will take their words back.

But never fear; several other independent animators aren't censoring their works.

I know, man. It's bull crap. This is OUR country, if they wish ill health on us and are happy about attacks on our civilians they should get the hell out of our country.

that video is kinda racists towards *uslim people with the cab comments and stuff. :/

We have our rights to freedom of speech, people across the world have NO RIGHT to tell us how to act. Do they have the power to stop us, besides killing thousands of innocent people again? No.

I'd rather be dead than to see freedom of speech overruled. I'd definitely not want to live in such a world where freedom of speech doesn't exist. So if they kill me for it, I won't regret it. But let's hope it never comes to that.

I don't mind if they say bad things about our country, and they don't like it; freedom of speech means you're allowed to voice those opinions. The hilarious part is if they took a good dose of their own medicine, not having freedom of speech may mean they can't be allowed to voice their opinions on us. But if you were referring to that muslim making those attacks, then I agree. What is he doing in a country he doesn't even like?

Although to be fair, it's starting to happen in Britain as well. Apparently, they're giving muslims a platform to stand on there, and Pat Condell is making complaints about it. It might also have been easier for them, because whoever is in power there is too much of a pussy to defend the rights we fought so long and hard for centuries ago. So maybe that's why they end up in countries they don't like to begin with. Because they think they can make other countries do what they want if they're there. I find that despicable.

People are idiots and will complain about anything that offends them even if they are not directly exsposed to it. ITs a TV show for christ's sake. It's not meant to be taken literally. (THough i understand some shows are meant to explaine things and thus should be taken literally) But south Park? You can't really expect the show to be TRYING to offend anyone. They just do what's funny. You don;t think it's funny? Then don't watch it. Simple as that. Some people should really be shot on sight.

The thing about South Park is that its creators are equal opportunists. They'll make fun of anyone and everyone. It doesn't matter who it is. They make fun of Christian fundamentalists and Richard Dawkins just as equally. They make fun of people they dislike, and they also make fun of people they might like. So in the end, it doesn't matter; if you thought your favorite celebrity is being put on the spot, don't fret; chances are, they'll make fun of your least favorite celebrity too.

Personally, I couldn't give a shit, I obviously don't believe in the religion, nor care about their rules. (This does not = lack of respect though)

One thing I find unbelievable though is it's 2010 and religion is still spilling blood.

Fuck religion.

Well, if a religion commands its people to kill or persecute others who don't believe the same things they do, it deserves no respect.

If a religion commands people to cover up their women, and stone them if they don't, it deserves no respect.

If a religion commands people to take away women's rights, it deserves no respect.

If a religion commands people to condemn free speech in order not to offend their own religion, it deserves no respect.

And if anyone of any religion does any of these things, regardless of whether or not their religion tells them to, he or she does not deserve respect. And so on.

So I think we do need to care a little about what their religion says. Or else you'll start finding you can't do things you used to be able to do without having someone claim you're offending their religion, even if you're minding your own business.

Im surprised they havent had death threats for being a gay couple! Im sure Muslin culture frowns upon that also. As someone said its a TV show, dont watch it for God sake. Dont take it as Gospel XD

matt stone and trey parker aren't gay. They're married and both to girls.
But I agree, if they don't like what it says they can change the channel and not watch. It's as easy as that.

For crying out loud, they showed Jesus Christ watching porn, I'm Christian and felt uncomfortable about it so I just turned the other cheek.

As sad and unfortunate as this is, I think that Comedy Central took the proper actions in protecting their employees and themselves. Regardless, the whole situation is hilarious if you think about it. Quite obviously, Matt and Trey knew the possible consequences of their actions, but they've also achieved what they were going for in the first place: to create a stir.

I honestly thought this was just a joke/gimmick, because the whole episode was about censorship out of fear, which was what South Park was making fun of, so to actually see it happen in the second part kind of surprised me.

If I hadn't watched the first episode, I wouldn't have known who was being censored in the second episode o_O

That's the reason why South Park are making such a huge deal over it. In the past they showed Muhammad as a super-hero with flame powers. The next time he appears, in a Family Guy mock, he's censored. That's why they made such a huge deal over it in the 200/201 episodes - it's highlighting the hypocrisy of the network.

That being said, it's ridiculous how worked up they've gotten over a cartoon. It showed the Hindu Deity snorting cocaine, and I don't believe any Hindu's have threatened the creators. It's hypocrisy all round. :ffs:

Actually, it was Buddha snorting coke. The Hindu god Krishna was the blue skinned guy that shape shifted :monster:

I think that people shouldn't make such a big deal about what south park is doing; i mean they make fun of everyone it's just for a laugh nothing more. If it's on Comedy Central then how on earth could you ever take it seriously right?
