SPOILERS some noob questions. bear with me please

1st question: after the shinra HQ, you can't use red 13? when does he finally get included in the party?
2nd question: after you get someone new, say yuffie, does she really start out at level 1?
3rd question: i used red 13 as a companion in corel prison, why is he only level 1?
4th question: why is red 13 not in my phs system after i get it?

i have been googling the answers to these questions, been browsing through these forums, and have come up with nothing. please help me out. thanks

I can only assume you're playing some version other than the original Playstation version. I have no knowledge of the PC version, but I'd guess it's either some PC mod or corruption, or an Action Replay thing if you're on Playstation.

1) Red can be used as a party member right away. The only time you can't use him early on is when Cloud faces Rufus alone.
2) New character's levels are determined by the levels of your current party members. They tend to fall somewhere in the middle, usually closer to your highest levelled character than your lowest.
3) The only natural instance of a level 1 character in the game is Cloud, as seen in the Kalm flashback.
4) The only time Red is missing from the PHS is for a brief instant following the Cosmo Canyon sequence.

thanks a lot for the help. i was getting very confused. im playing steam version with some graphics mods, didn't think they could affect anything else
