Pitting Sephiroth against Goku in terms of the game you would have to choose a suitable time for Goku in which he hadn't realized his full potential.
I would recommend the Namek Saga Goku, because its my favourite, allowing Goku the ability to use Super Sayian but only with great difficulty and determination.

After Meteor turns Sephiroth into a God then Goku can be whatever he wants. Sephiroth would waste him.

There's a problem with your arguement, Supernova is an illusion, and although it still does damage, we can't translate the numbers accurately. And Sephiroth is a low-ranking God, as you call it. Can he create and destroy universes? We've never seen him do such things, and if AC Sephiroth is stronger than FF7 Sephiroth, then calling him God would be an overstatement.

The sword would bend in half if Sephiroth tried to hit him with it. It's common knowledge that no means of existing human combat, including swords, can do jack to a Saiyan.

Then you need to read more manga and comics, for there are so many people who are far beyond Goku.

No matter how hard Sephy tries, he'll lose, even with a sword. Goku can teleport himself remember?

In Ac i'm pretty sure he was just the same. The intention was to re-create what the ff7 battles would look like in real time action. The problem is they are hardly comparable because of the different conceptions of power between the two stories.

However we will never know the limit of "god" Sephiroth's power so ultimately this is a pointless debate :)
 
OMG Sephy never loses..except against cloud that once. But none the less he'll beat Goku. And why because he's the best.

Hmm, I see. I've only seen DBZ, up to where they defeated Majin Buu. I don't remember Goku fighting anyone with a sword (unless my memory fails me), so I really wouldn't know that swords are useless to Saiyans. I'm kinda just basing this on assumptions. I know both are really fast though.

When Goku first meets Trunks he has a sword fight with him, with his finger.
 
then again...Couldn't you argue that since Sephiroths sword is magical and all that it would be able to break through Gokus skin?

Crap, I forgot about that fight! Yeah I remember now. But then again that was Trunks. Sephiroth is powerful and is very experienced with his extremely long sword. Hmm, this is a toughie. I'll just say both.
 
this one is easy....at the end of every dragonball series, who is victorious?? Goku, everytime. and who gets his but kicked by cloud all over town?? Sephiroth. Goku is always gonna win, regardless, no matter how bad the odds are, its just the way it goes with that guy... just the same as sephiroth will always lose its in his nature...

Can anyone in Dragonball own Sephiroth?

Well maybe the androids, but then they never die anyway :(

Either way, I don't see how Sephiroth can go against Goku, if Freeza can beat Sephiroth.

Bah, this thread's pointless, make a movie out of this then!
