Hi to everyone,

I am trying to play my old FF VII to my ps2 console but i cant save. The same happens when i try to play VIII. Is there a solution for that??????

Are you trying to save with PS2 memory cards? Or is it not completing the save operation? Or is it something else?

it doesnt see the ps2 card. I have an older psx card (not original) but i get the message that it must be formated. I format the card but again it cant save.

Have you made sure the PS2 sees the card before you play? If it doesn't maybe it needs cleaning. Does your PS2 do this with ANY PS2 memory card you try?

No, the card works fine with all the other games exept ff 7 and ff 8. Is it a Compatibility problem?

I can't really say anything there, I've always used ps1 memory cards for ps1 games. And by 'other games' I assume you mean other ps1 games as well?

Yeah, you can use a ps1 memory card on a ps2 console, I think you'd be better off just buying a ps1 memory card or two (depending on what you're like with files) since it seems your ps2 memory card(s) just doesn't want to save ps1 data, though it is to be expected really. So just get a ps1 memory card if you don't have one already and you should be sorted.

I think you are right. I just bought one from ebay. I hope it will work
Thank you very much

Final Fantasy 7 and 8 work with all PS1 type memory cards (official or otherwise) however there was a series of PSM memory cards which randomly "forgot" data (I was given one once), perhaps this is a PSM memory card or age has caused the same problems?

He was using ps2 memory cards for saving ps1 data. And data loss wasn't the problem, it was reading the ps2 memory cards, which doesn't work on a ps1 game.

I don't understand how that is possible, in My copy of FFVII and FFVIII at least slots with ps2 memory cards in them are shown in grey and cannot be saved to at all.
