It's very simple when you get down to it:
In executing Saddam, we (Britain) and the US have lowered ourselves to Saddam's level. In my opinion, no-one deserves a capital punishment, I'm totally against it no matter whom the criminal.
There are more effective ways with dealing with major criminals, but as it happens, the US and the UK needed strong, powerful signifiers to show the general public that the ILLEGAL war on Iraq is, after all, justified.
Think about ... the minute you agree with the hanging of Saddam, you are agreeing that the ILLEGAL war on Iraq was totally justified.
