Saddam Hussein's Execution

It's very simple when you get down to it:

In executing Saddam, we (Britain) and the US have lowered ourselves to Saddam's level. In my opinion, no-one deserves a capital punishment, I'm totally against it no matter whom the criminal.

There are more effective ways with dealing with major criminals, but as it happens, the US and the UK needed strong, powerful signifiers to show the general public that the ILLEGAL war on Iraq is, after all, justified.

Think about ... the minute you agree with the hanging of Saddam, you are agreeing that the ILLEGAL war on Iraq was totally justified.

Think about this, people. Really think about.

I cant even begin to describe my feelings on this, but in my opinion Saddam was nothing more than a murderer, not even worthy of being called HUMAN!! He killed so many for NO reason and should have been killed a long long time ago.

Although I note there is speculation as to whether or not the deed actually happened ... I havent seen or heard of any video footage that can validate this

And in killing him, we are now no better than the man you hated so much. In murdering the murderer, we have become murderers. And the slaughter continues, even past his death. Proof, if anything, the murder and slaughter causes yet more murder and slaughter.

He had it coming to him. I personally don't care if he was killed or exiled to some other land where he has no power. He wasn't in any position to do anything since we invaded. Its not like the violence is suddenly going to stop now that he is dead.

Did he? We, that is Britain and America, supplied Saddam weapons all throughout the 80's and 90's when he was disputing with Iran.

Then why don't we pull out? Originally, wasn't it our sole mission to go to war with Iraq so that we could ursurp Saddam and hence claim all the oil for ourselves ... I mean, establish democracy?

I'm not going to argue with you about it. It was before my time so I'm not going to pretend I know anything about it. As for your second question. We can't just pull out and leave a country with no government, or at least thats what I think. Second of all, No disrespect, unless your a vet, I don't think it matters. Our(American) soldiers are not drafted. They CHOOSE to be there. My brother is over right now and he says that most people over there WANT to be over there. They are in Iraq for glory and to fight for their country. Btw, I'm not talking about politics, I really don't care how we ended up over there. Were in Iraq and we have to deal with it now.

Ive stated my opinion on the death sentance on its threads, don't agree with it for the reasons stated there.

But did want to say something about all those people saying that Sadam ran the country properly so should have been left in. The problem with that is that leaving hin in means condoning his crimes which is just wrong.

Executing Saddam isn't something I opposed. I suppose I'd go as far as saying it was the most humane thing you could have done to that man/beast.

Execution in general, however... some methods I can't say I approve of. I'd go as far as lethal injection, but nothing to inflict pain. Although not a greatly religious person, I take comfort knowing they have been damned for eternity. Justice enough for me.

I know its been a while since this has happened but I must say its about time we caught and took out someone who needed it. I'm American so dont think I live in another country and I just wanna trash on America but I do believe we are taking our dear sweet time finishing this war.

As for Saddam, he deserved to be killed in the worst way. I would do it with those weapons he used on his people. If I remember correctly he was hung. That was an easy way out.

As far as I know, lethal injection IS painful. It's usually not just one injection, but a series of them which gradually paralyze you and stop your breathing until you suffocate and your brain dies from lack of oxygenation. Sounds painful to me.

While some criminals deserve it, I don't think any human has the right to implement execution.
