My boyfriend always does that sort of thing. I remember one night he did it he had sprained his foot the previous day, and we were all down at the park watching him set up this soda bomb thing with sparklers and 'BOOM!'
It freakin' made the loudest noise and people began looking out their windows and thinking someone had been shot and so we all ran with Steve limping behind us. XD
The beach is the best place to do that sort of thing!

On night shift at work we fill the pipes up with acetylene putting a cap on one end so the gas doesnt escape let it fill for a few seconds then light the end. It makes a huge explosion and sends the cap flying. Dangerous stuff but its great fun =D
