Not really, no. People are incredibly fickle. From my experience, the vast majority of people only give respect to select individuals that conform very tightly to their own personal ideals. Many will throw away that respect in an instant of an individual doesn't fit into that narrow spectrum of beliefs.
Respect that is given on a truly broad basis is incredibly rare, despite what most people would like to delude themselves into believing about their own morals.
2) How do you judge how much respect you give someone?
I will respect someone off the bat without exception, regardless of who they are, what they believe in, where they come from, and any other circumstance... as long as their actions are not needlessly vindictive. That's the only rule for me.
Vindicate someone without them hurting you, I won't waste my breath with you ever again. Vindicate someone who has gone out of their way to abuse you though, and I'll probably applaud you.
