Because a month is not long enough. Just think how confusing it would get if several people kept changing their name every month.
 
I'm willing to go with whatever the staff consensus is, I have no preference.

I'm not sure how a time limit thing would be done. If it's easy to implement then that's fine.

IIRC there's a vB mod that allows users to buy a name change with some sort of points system, though I don't know what it's called. If anyone knows then post about it here. I'll watch this thread.

Note that there's an issue with name changes and post counts. I believe post counts need to be updated when a username is changed? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not sure if anyone would have a problem with updating post counts, I know at some forums for some people it's an issue.

I never noticed an issue with name changes and post counts. Are you refering the mod?

Matt, it can lead to total chaos. A month is too short of a period.
 
Wow you even fixed the buddies list. I used to not be able to see page 2,3,4... on mine or anyone elses profile. But now I can, you're fixing this stuff really fast. NICE JOB!
 
Don't use that points system for it, that would just get bypassed too often and it's generally just a pain. And afaik, there's no issue with changing post counts.

And I think 'chaos' is a but strong. Changing usernames often isn't exactly going to bring about the apocolypse, and as I said, it's not hard to catch up on who's changed their name to what.
 
I think so too, Matt has a good point. Could someone just explain about the post count a bit, what's that about?

Updating the post counter. People's post counts might go down.

A couple people have requested name changes, if no one minds updating the post counter I'll go ahead and change them.
 
Ah I see, tnx for the explanation. Even if my post count goes down I wouldn't mind, it would mean that I'd have to post some more :D
 
Exactly, peoples post counts aren't effected by changing usernames, ^_^ The only time peoples post counts have fluctuated on FFF is when threads have been archived into the wrong places.

...and, combined with the current "Previous Username" function, all you need to do is click.

It was a pretty simple thing - setting the <base> tag, that's all; second thing I tried. I guess others didn't know the magic of the <base> tag :) (first thing I tried was setting RewriteBase / in .htaccess, though that didn't help)

I really have no idea what the problem is there. Don't think it's related to the other stuff. Will look into it further.

You can let me know what you want as an avatar and I'll set it for you, if you like.
