From Final Fantasy Wikia:

Dissidia will be released in North America in "mid-year 2009". Due to the symbolic date chosen for Japan, many fans believe that in North America the precise date will be July 12th, the same date that the original Final Fantasy was released in North America.
Gar... I hope they don't put it off purposefully just so that it can reach a symbollic date! But ah well, good that it's properly confirmed now for a non-Japan release.
I'll probably grab this version as it's not going to be much different from a European release I assume... and with a European release I'd have to wait even longer for them to translate to lots of different languages.

Also, a NA website has just been put up.

Here it is:
http://na.square-enix.com/dissidia/

There's nothing on it yet... But it exists!

I hate how us Europeans get everything last, I don't see WHY considering us Brits sperak the same fucking language asyou lot. Ugh, that's AGES away -__-

The games are usually released like this JP>NA>UK>Europe>Australia. I know this because I had to wait a few days for some games that were supposed to come to Europe, but they always come to UK, then to the rest some several days( or weeks) later.

Well, the date of release is not definitive for NA, I believe we Europeans will get the game around August or September...if not later.

I cant wait for the NA version mid 2009 damm but we got to wait at least we can play the japan one for the time being.

I might order it online since I can read japanese. But i don't wanna do it if it's region locked (like KHFM2 - jees, THAT was a disaster!) Does anyone know if it's region locked? AKA Will the japanese version work in a NA Ps2?

OH nice but I have the japanese version and I understand it now but I do plan on getting the english version when it comes out here. Anyways I guess English Dissidia would be nice and I will not have to translate.

July 12th?! Dang, maybe I will wait until this comes out instead of importing! That just so happens to be my birthday! :D

I didn't know the FF series arrived in NA July 12th! I have to admit, I feel kinda special now, sorta.

This game is not a PS2 game, it's a PSP game, so no, it probably won't work in a NA PS2. The PSP however, is region-free, so you can play Japanese games in it if you so wish.

Right. Sorry, I spaced out there. The PSP is region-free? Thank god.

Dissidia's story is good but I do not understand it that well but all the other modes are great!!! So dissidia in english should help me understand the story much better but I guess if die hard fans like it too much just get the japanese version for now.

Yup. I've imported a couple of games from Japan myself, and they work perfectly. No problems to speak of. However, you might have to get used to different button configurations than what you're used to, and there's the whole "language barrier" issue. For example, instead of "X" being the default button for normal actions (such as saving, selecting, et cetera) in one of my imported games, it's "O".
