Initially I thought this aswell but I was corrected that the GF is actually Pandemona and looks nothing like Pandemonium.

Tidus is way more whiny than Vaan ever was.
Perhaps but that's only because Vaan never talked. The guy had like three lines in the whole game. "I fight the rats" "I wanna be king of the pirates" and "I've decided I'm coming along on this journey" are his only three. He doesn't even really play enough of a role in the game to have any character flaw. If you gave Basch the ability to dual wield swords you could eliminate Vaan altogether and not lose any of the plot.
