I ran into the same issue last year. After having over half a dozen Xbox 360s die on me, I finally purchased one with an impressive 2-year warranty attached.
I owned that Xbox for a little less than a year when, of course, it caught the RRoD. Knowing my warranty was valid, I went online to see about either repairing or replacing it; however, according to the website, my Xbox's warranty had expired.
Confused, I contacted customer support. They told me my warranty had expired despite my claims that I hadn't had the Xbox for one year, let alone two years. I had a receipt proving that, but they wouldn't budge.
So yeah, Microsoft sucks. They advertise these long warranties, but don't honor them or stand by their product. Can't say I blame them too much. Their product is garbage.
