I got this game about a week ago after seeing an RP interest thread and then looking on-line to check the game out. I have to say this game is highly enjoyable and carries many unique features, as well as some elements of some of my favorite games.
This is a five-part game, where you play as five generations of heroes, each one the child of the last. The battle system is something akin to Disgaea, but instead of needing to cluster your characters together to make chains, each character has 'extension' areas to place other characters to link them together. It allows for various battle formations where you can chain combos and create super link moves.
There is a turn system outside of battle that denotes time. Certain events require you be either Light, Dark or Neutral and some have time limits (must be reached before X number of turns have passed).
Romance is also a big thing in the game, and each generation (with the exception of the final generation, which has more choices) has a choice of three different women to romance with. Also, each generation character has a different personality, so like Doctor Who, there's a favorite for everyone.
The story line is also quite good. After being almost slain by the Dark Knight (No, not Batman), the main character is approached by a goddess and given the option to either die, or give her his soul and the souls of his future kin in order to stamp out the forces of darkness from the world. he agrees, in order to keep his promise to protect Ellis, a young elven girl. There are plenty of interesting plot twists.
My chief complaint is the insane difficulty in the later generations. I'm currently at Gen 5 with my characters up at lv. 80, and the bosses are practically mopping the floor with my group while my supers are doing only marginal damage, and they are able to regen every turn, and I have the game set to Easy if that helps put things in perspective.
Other than that, this is certainly an interesting buy if you like long games with a nice amount of replay value (New Game + lets you carry over captured monsters, items, equipment and such from your previous game).
