1. I've seen in YouTube videos people doing other things in his Renzokuken limit break besides 'Rough Divide' it seems they learned different moves? How does that work?

2. About that 'Press R1 when you strike to perform a critical hit'... is this true and when exactly do you press R1, and what difference does it make?

3. There's a gap between Siren and Diablos in my GF screen, did I miss a GF? I have Shiva, Quezacotl, Ifrit, Siren... according to a website where it lists the GFs, I'm missing 'The Brothers'.... where am I supposed to get that?

4. Normal Ammo... what's all this for? I'm getting Normal Ammo from Galbadian Soldiers and does it have something to do with Irvine? I have some shotgun bullets as well...

5. Why is FF8 so much more weird and confusing than other games? T-T or am I just retarded?

6. I just left Timber and I'm at the East Academy stop, Squall does like 75-100 damage, Selphie does 55-70 damage, it's around the same with everyone else too... Do I need to train or get new weapons? Am I too weak? Squall's level 21 right now... Everyone else is like level 14-18

1. As you upgrade your gunblade model you get different moves associated with it. Things such as fated circle and blasting zone

2. This applies only to Squall and Seifer and that produces a critical hit. ou press R1 just as you hear the slash SFX (or when you see the gunblade in the enemy)

3. The Brothers are the GF in the Tomb of the Unknown King. When you defeat Sacred and Minotaur you gain them as GFs. If you aren't in Deling City yet you can't access them yet.

4. The 'ammo' items are for Irvine's limit break. Without ammo types he can't attack in limit break.

5. That is probably because you're still adjusting to the Junction system nd the 'level up with your enemies' feature. You'll get used to it in time.

6. The best way to increase damage is to draw strong magic and junction it to your stats, such as strength will increase physical damage. However, beware of using a junctioned spell as it will weaken the stat boost with the lower quantity. It's better to junction than to level up to gain power.

One feature I despise in this game is having to get the ingredients for your weapons before you buy them -.- I hate that, but overall FF8 is an excellent game. I'm having trouble deciding what's better, FF7 or FF8...

Ya, it can be a pain, especially if you're trying to keep your level as low as possible. (I had Flame Trigger when i fought
Seifer inside Galbadia Garden
and I was also about level 30 or so and he was ripping me apart with most of his attacks)

If I recall, you can get screws from the monsters in Tomb of the Unknown Kin (they are quite useful for most second stage weapons, to my recollection. I know this is true for Squall and Zell at least)

To get screws, I personally think its easier just to get into a random encounter with Geezard's. They're the gray lizard looking guys, you can encounter them on any 'dry' areas on the big continent you start off on. The one with Galbadia, Dollet, or Timber on it.

Also, your half right Emperor. Screws are used for Squall's weapons almost every time, but Zell doesn't need any for his weapons. Screws are probably the easiest item to get, they're commonly dropped by Geezard's, you don't even have to steal from them most of the time. Not to mention their so weak Selphie could take them out in one hit. XD

The more powerful the weapon, the harder the items are to come by. You might want to give Triple Triad (the card game) a try. It's a pretty fun game, easy to play, and with the Card Mod ability, you can trade in cards for items, which are used for making weapons. Getting 2 T-Rexaur cards for a Dino Bone are a heck of a lot easier than trying to kill one yourself. Hope it helps some Nokoi.

Hmm... I still have the starting weapons... and I'm at Galbadia Garden right now meeting Irvine... is that normal? Or should I upgrade NOW?!

Oh my...it might not hurt to upgrade some weapons. In fact, you'll be having a few possibly tough boss fights pretty soon. One of them is optional for you to win or lose, but if you lose, you'd miss out on 20 AP. Either way, you'll have to upgrade eventually, unless you want to have a tougher time with the game purposely. If anything, I'd recommend getting Squall his Cutting Trigger at least. Something for some other characters would be good too. Rinoa's are some of the easiest items to find for her weapons.

Not to sound lazy, but there's a gamefaqs guide that I think will help you quite a bit. I could paraphrase from it, but it might be better if you just read through it a little bit. It tells you all the items you need for every character's weapon, and where and how to get them. I recommend you at least give it a try before you go any farther.

Yes you learn other limit breaks as you get new weapons. Its random as far as I know as to which ending you'll get or if there will even be an ending special after Renzokuken.

2. About that 'Press R1 when you strike to perform a critical hit'... is this true and when exactly do you press R1, and what difference does it make?

Yes you can set the gunblade to auto if you don't like it. Hitting R1 at the right time will be a critical hit.

3. There's a gap between Siren and Diablos in my GF screen, did I miss a GF? I have Shiva, Quezacotl, Ifrit, Siren... according to a website where it lists the GFs, I'm missing 'The Brothers'.... where am I supposed to get that?

You get Brothers
at the tomb of the unknown king

The ammo is cool and can be used to refine into other items/magic. It can also be used as Irvines limit break.

Opinion? Yes.
Final Fantasy VIII is more into time and space later. It does get confusing.

The most I can say is to draw 100 of every magic you can and make strength your best stat. Then you'll do more damage.

Alright, so I'm in the Tomb of the Unknown King. I'm currently inside it as I type,

The only weapons I ever got from the junk shop are:
Valkyrie
Squall's 2nd sword upgrade (forgot the name)

Good or bad?

And also, I think I don't have one of the Weapons Monthly magazines... The Cutting Trigger isn't in the junk shop.

If you have the relevant items, the weapons will still appear in the shops anyway

There's a magazine in the sewers in Galbadia, so it may be in that one. You won't be able to get there just yet.
And it's not the first sewer you go in with Quistis' team. its the one by the side of the presidents house

I used to never have any upgrades at the end of disk one, until like, recently, I just never seemed to have the right items or more often than not, Id forget to go to the junk shop, so it's not to big a deal really. Tbh, other than getting Sqaulls extra limit breaks it doesnt really make all that much difference anyway, just stock 100 of every sodding spell and junction away, yu'll be overpowered without even needing tio worry about your weapons

Question, and I hope someone can answer really fast. I have to go to Trabia to get the Mesmerize Blade from the Mesmerize enemy. How do I get to Trabia from Deling City? It seems whenever I need the items, they're always on the other side of the world, and I'm not sure how to get there. I want to have the Cutting Trigger before I finish Disc 1... or is that not possible?

You can't get to Trabia yet, it's on the otherside of the continent. There should be mesmerises knocking about somewhere else though

Im sure they arent just in Trabia...I had a look in the guide and sure enough.... so I cant give you an exact location Im afraid....

im SURE theres some around galbadia somewhere :hmmm:

I didn't encounter any Mesmerize's except by Trabia. I got powerful weapons early in the game by carding some enemies and playing the card game itself. Just win a Mesmer card, Card Mod it into a Mesmerize Blade and you have one without getting anywhere near Trabia. But if you didn't play the card game then it really doesn't matter.

I've just gotten too used to spamming the card game and getting tons of weapon upgrades and powerful magic early. Really, if you just draw some decent magic from enemies and junction them as best you can (Strength on Zell or Squall and Defence or Spirit on anyone you can), you'll be fine.

Ahhhh that might be why Ive had the blades before getting to Trabia then, I card mod most of my items, yeah - I'd agree that's you're best way of getting most of the items you will need for the weapons tbh

That's what it says on the Final Fantasy Wiki. Am I close to any of those locations?

Location
Trabia - Eldbeau Penisula, Sorbald Snowfield, Winter Island, Bika Snowfield, Trabia Crater, Hawkwind Plains, Trabia Canyon
Great Plains of Esthar - before Lunar Cry

Also, I don't play the card game, I never figured it out and I don't really want to >.> I think I'm handling ENOUGH features in this game before my head explodes.

Nope, all on the other continent. Play cards, it's the best way

Squall now does 650 damage on his critical hit because I junctioned 80 Blizzagas to his STR. Thank god for the Refine ability, Well I guess I'll just wait, I don't wanna go through the whole card system. I should be ok with the 650 damage critical hit, right?

You really should get into the cards, it'l make life so much easier for getting items

And yeah that's grand xD

K, I want to do a stat checkup, to see if everything's alright with my party.

Rinoa: Level 21 1080 HP total - my current party member
Squall: Level 31 1480 HP total - my current party member
Quistis: Level 25 1160 HP total - my current party member
Zell: Level 13 750 HP total
Irvine: Level 13 699 HP total
Selphie: Level 15 749 HP total

Yeah, I'm switching party members...

Quintis is one of the best characters in the game IMO. If you can get some of her better Blue magic like Degenerator, White Wind, and Mighty Guard, that alone makes her an excellent party member. You get her Blue Magic by getting certain items from enemies, if you didn't already know.

You can probably handle most of the game without worrying about weapon upgrades. Junctioning is where its at. That stuff will work for awhile. If your levels are high enough, I suggest trying to steal Windmills from Thrustaevis outside of Deling City. You can refine them into Tornadoes which MAJORLY increase your HP. I'm talking 2-3 thousand HP on almost all of your characters. I think its worth the time spent, but its up to you.

But yeah, I'd say your doing good so far. All of this is reminding me of the hell I went through first time playing FFVIII. It can be a difficult game, I guess I forgot having played it so many times since then.
