Hi I am new to the forum and would like your thoughts on something I have been pondering on regards the character Yuna.

I am tying to write a story tied into the FFX world as I have always loved this particular game and the characters and writing it kinda got me thinking about this. Picture a scenario in your head where, without giving anything away, Yuna has defeated an enemy. If that enemy then begged her for mercy would Yuna show mercy? Or would she kill her enemy? How merciful would she be in such a situation do you think? This enemy is a real bad guy so it's a difficult morality issue but he has no awesome powers like Sin for example.

I want to try and portray her as accurately as possible and I believe fan sites like this are always the best way to get an idea of how people see her.

Thanks!

I agree with St. Matthews on the 'no one really knows what she would do' part. I'm actually leaning over towards not giving mercy to a foe, especially because of her experiences with Sin.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Yuna isn't some kind of killing machine that just goes around murdering ruthelessly. I truly believe that if she were fighting a foe and that enemy begged for her mercy, I don't think Yuna would have the heart to kill it... UNLESS it was already damaged enough to the point of where it could not be saved Yuna would put it out of it's misery or if it did anything to harm Tidus or one of her well-loved companions, I think Yuna would take the liberty to kill it, no matter how much it pleaded.

Hey thanks for the replies so far :) Some really interesting points made.

Just to add slightly to what I am describing the enemy is a human (if that makes a difference to this) and hasn't harmed Tidus etc. Writing this bit I am on it just "feels" wrong having Yuna act unmercifully here but its tough to say what she would do. Her mood is certainly very fervid and pumped up, they had been battling for quite a long time.

I'm def thinking that she wouldn't have the heart to kill even her deepest enemies in this sort of situation? She might toil with her own emotions about what to do but ultimately decide she just couldn't do it... As ppl have said though it is perhaps impossible to say.

If this were about Paine I'd quickly accept she'd act mercilessly as that seems to be her nature but with Rikku, for example, I also couldn't imagine her having the heart to kill someone who pleaded with her for mercy.

I think that Yuna is first, and foremost, a compassionate human being. She doesn't like to kill or harm, she prefers to negotiate things rather than fighting, in fact, fighting is often the "last option" for Yuna.

I truly feel she'd be more open to letting the enemy have another chance. She's not ruthless. But she is firm when she needs to be.

I didnt play alot of FFX but i did play enough to understand Yuna's personality. I think she would be merciful and let the fiend live.

If the enemy killed Tidus or Braska then she would kill it if not she would let it live

can i just ask would this enemy keep killing people(doing bad things)if yuna let it live?

i need to know that before i can give my answer

This is a good question. I think that the truth is they might but it isn't a certainty. The enemy is a human warrior of no great power (nothing like Sin) but has killed. I think the fundamental point here is whether Yuna would think about this "greater good" or find herself unable to act without compassion and show mercy out of what she feels morally.

It seems most people agree that she would give mercy and I suspect this myself. Be cool to see what you think ;)

this is a vary hard question indeed and your luck i took your question ok i took this question to my final fantasy fan club at school and we came to find that we could not answer this question by just looking at yuna's character in ff10 so we went to ff10-2(now just note that i hate what square did to yuna's character in 10-2 so i only looked at key points in her personality)the yuna in ffx-2 knowing that the enemy had killed other people she would have put it to it's death but the yuna in ffx would have shown mercy so i came to the conclusion that the yuna in ffx is what i would use so here's what i think this is your story so it doesn't matter what yuna dose to the enemy it's all about your wording so to help you out i played ff10 again and choose the scenes i think that define yuna's character the most ok here they are:the boat trip from besaid to kilika just before sin's attack when yuna and tidus are talking study it carefully now next study yuna from when the party talks to lord seymour at guadosalam to when the party fights seymour at macalania temple so yes i think yuna would have shown mercy but it would be interesting to know how yuna would feel after killing the enemy

i know, she would try to convince this enemy to the good side then she would try to convince Auron to let this person into her party so she could keep a good watch over them advising on how to change... if that doesn't work... then... somebody else would kill this enemy and they would just ask her to perform the sending like in auron and Jecht's case

Yuna

She is naive to a fault, however i think what she would do in this situation is free this evil person of all the pain it feels, by sending it to the farplane and wont hurt anyone anymore, even itself so id say Yuna would kill it with mercy.

yeahh she'd do the whole farplane business like the fella above said but tbh, i dont really think yuna would be strong enough in battle by herself to kill a really evil warrior, unless we're talking about when she turns 12 and gets guns in X-2...

I think Yuna would toil with her emotions before killing the enemy, I don't think she'd be able to take the chance of the enemy killing an innocent person if she let the enemy live
