You know, there's a reason the religious people in my family never talk to me about religion.
They realized a long time ago, that I know more about it than they do.
Most who are vocal about religious beliefs think they have a message that has value. They believe they have something to teach others that will enhance the quality of their life and allow them to be happier and better people.
They don't necessarily do it to be oppressive or overbearing, they do it because they care about you and believe its in your best interest.
Its really no different from a family member wanting to sit down with you and talk about how life insurance might be a good idea or how having an IRA account & planning ahead for your retirement is a decent strategy.
I don't see why its not possible to simply sit down and talk about these things politely.
