I was browsing the internet to figure out which push up variation was better for the chest. I have always thought it was the close grip, which I have been doing. But it says wide grip works the chest better.

I found the wide grip easier than the close grip. In fact it was very easy. I thought the closer the hands the harder the chest works?

Does anybody know? When working the chest, which is better, close grip or wide grip.

They're both affective to different parts of the chest, but the far grip push-up doesn't just work out your chest.

The close grip gives you that cut between your pecks, and works out your biceps. Far grip exercises more parts of the body like your wing muscles, your shoulders, biceps, and puts more muscle on your pecks.

As a matter of fact, the further your grip, the more it works out the wing muscles.

Awesome thanks for that info. I've basically just been sticking to narrow grip as I found the wide grip too easy (compared to narow grip). But maybe its because theres more strain on the arms with narrow grip

For me I go wider for going down all the way to the ground, but by going narrow you can put more pressure on the arms. Unfortunately, you can only do so many narrow one's, so for quantity, go wide.

When I went to the Gym I used to vary my push ups, it works more muscles in the body that way.

Actually, close grip works out your triceps more than anything. Whenever you work out your chest, you're also putting strain on your triceps, making them stronger as well. The same occurs with back and biceps. The ideal grip for chest is hands just wider than your shoulders, although its good to change it up to work different areas of the chest and get a more complete workout.

DO a close grip but put your hands in a trigangle shape so theyre close together. For extra points u can try clapping your hands after the down part this makes it tougher, and more effectve

I can barely do push ups. I feel weak after doing 2 of them. Oh well, girls don't have upper body strength by nature anyways. I do sit ups every morning though. >_>
