Yes, it's in the other version of FFI, as well. Final Fantasy I for the PSP is a direct port of the old game with some improved graphics. FFI was originally on NES, so... That easter egg would refer to Link, the Hero of Time. :neomon:

Link is a pretty common name. its actually short for Lincoln. Nintendo has no copyright to the name Link, just the character. So...

I no that the original is on the nes but i havent played it in years saying as i sold my nes wen it got outdated (big mistake) but ive so used to ff for sony that i forgot the original was made for nintendo and nintendo has rights over the zelda series that explains it lol

doh! so did I! I guess thats the end of that story...now the thread will get spammy...or no one will post in here anymore...i vote the second one...

Yeah, when it was originally made they had the "Here Lies Link" thing in the headstone as a little reference to another nintendo game.

yes, its called The "Legend of Zelda". Perhaps you've heard of it Aerith :neomon:

Of course I've heard of the game, I said "another nintendo game" in the sense that FF was a nintendo game too back then...

But, I think at the time FF came out, Zelda had just been released too, so it would have been a novel little thing for fans at the time.

This ode to Link appears in the GBA version also.

In the original NES version, however, the headstone reads a different name: Erdrick (or Loto in the American version) This is a direct reference to the character of Dragon Quest, which was the main competitor of Final Fantasy.

Yes the original said "Here lies Erdrick" but the name of the game was "Dragon Warrior" not "Dragon Quest".

Dragon Quest and Dragon Warrior are the same game... the name was just changed when it was released here...

Heres what it says on the various versions:
American NES version - "Here lies Erdrick". A reference to Dragon Warrior.
American version of Origins - "May Link rest in peace". A reference to Legend of Zelda.
PAL versions of Origins - "May Erdrick rest in peace"
Dawn Of Souls and PSP versions - "Here lies Link"

wasnt zelda (nintendo) rivals with final fantasy (square) at the time, so the gravestone was probably taking the piss out link
